Conference Opening and Chairperson’s Welcome

Opening keynote Presentation: Dow Corning’s Web-Based Business Model technology JourneyIn 2003, Dow Corning launched their first web-based portal named Xiameter.com based upon a very successful global single instance of SAP which supports the entire Dow Corning business. A web front end was developed, which leveraged the global configuration of the business rules inside our SAP system. A couple of years later, again leveraging the global SAP system, the company also introduced web-based order-entry capability on their flagship dowcorning.com website. Fast forward to 2009, the company has chosen, once again, to take innovative steps in renovating the Xiameter.com platform - both from a business model design and the ever critical technology platforms that the business is built upon.

keynote Presentation: Web Dynpro ABAP - Enhancements with SAP NetWeaver 7.0 and Beyond

Web Dynpro ABAP has seen numerous enhancements since its launch with SAP NetWeaver 7.0. This presentation focuses in particular on recent changes via SAP NetWeaver Enhancement Packages in the development infrastructure and the UI design. Topics will include "drag & drop", Islands and asynchronous value suggestion.

We will discuss how Web Dynpro ABAP fits into the overall UI strategy at SAP and its main usages within the software that SAP delivers to customers. This will include the role that Web Dynpro ABAP plays in the usage of either the NetWeaver Portal or the NetWeaver Business Client.

11.15How to Deploy Solution Manager to Manage a large landscape and Cut Support CostsIn the last 6 months, Australia Post has deployed over 50 SAP instances including usage types such as SCM, ECC, BI, PI, GRC, EP, TREX and KM etc. In order to manage and support such a complex landscape, Australia Post has devoted a small budget to extract operational benefits from the latest Solution Manager offering. During this session, Tony will talk about how Solution Manager was architected and installed at Australia Post. He will outline how they prioritised and enabled functionality, one Work Center at a time. Listen to their real life experience, where Tony will explain:• Solution Manager pre-requisites (hardware, backup and high availability) •Importance of Enhancement Pack 1 • Landscape reporting (automatic discovery of instances and versions) • Wily Introscope deployment for monitoring Java instances •Central Reporting History using the built in BI cubes • Automatic Early Watch Alerting and Service Level Reporting • The importance of Solution Groups and CCMS monitoring agents across critical

systems • Connection of alerting to 3rd party systems using SNMP traps, SMS or eMail • Using Solution Manager Diagnostics for root cause analysis and detection of

changes • Other functionality you may wish to consider including Redwood CPS, PAL and

SCUA• Advanced features including ST06n and DBACOCKPIT Learn the secret ingredients from one of the biggest SAP customers in Australia who are using the latest SAP technology offerings. Have your light-bulb switched on by a NetWeaver technician and SDN Mentor with over 15 years SAP experience.tony de thomasis - NetWeaver infrastructure Architect, Australia Post (SAP Mentor)SAP release: ECC6Original go-live date: June 2009target Audience: IT Manager, Solution Architect, Technical Administration staff.

Don't Put on a Brave Face, Put on a Happy One! ui technologies to Make you SmileDrought, famine, pestilence. These have all been compared favourably to the stereotypical experience that SAP project teams foster upon unsuspecting users. Need the ordeal be so grey, even if it is naval quality grey? Will lipstick on the pig make it more attractive?Throw away lines, but the mud often sticks, likely rendering the lipstick, no matter how smudge proof, looking a little less glossy. However, all is not lost and in this presentation you'll come to see, experience and understand the UI offerings across the SAP portfolio, preparing you to wrestle, if not completely tackle, some of the common pitfalls in putting best-in-class business application logic into the hands of eager users.Web Dynpro, Floor Plan Manager, Flex, AJAX, Business Client, mobile and iPhone are buzzwords almost guaranteed to grace the screen at some point or another, but we'll also explore other "hands-free" options to help you think outside the box.Come along to understand:• A holistic perspective on the how's and why's of UI•Simple isn't necessarily easy•The diverse options across the SAP portfolio•Pointers to further resources•How metaphors can be mercilessly abusedPhillip Merrick - Solution Architect, SAP Australia Pty ltdtarget Audience: Architects, Project Leads and IT Management.

Enhancement Pack 4 - is it a ‘Support Pack’, is it ‘Support Stack’, is it an ‘upgrade’…The NSW Department of Services, Technology and Administration (DSTA) undertook a project to complete the development of a ‘Standard Government Template’ by implementing ESS, MSS, Portal and Travel & Expenses. EhP4 offered the best solution for Travel & Expenses with the latest and greatest functionality and for us this is when the nightmare began. This presentation covers:•What exactly is an Enhancement Pack?• Preparation, downtime and processing timelines• The Basis, ABAP (SPAU and SPDD) and testing effort that was involved• The hardware that was required to run the new EhP4 system•Landscape requirements•Our approach for future maintenance•Key learning’s and mistake’s•Neat tricks and tools to usePeter Carr - ERP Manager, NSW Department of Services, technology and AdministrationSAP release: ECC6Original go-live date: July 1996target Audience: Solution Architects, Basis and Technical support staff, Project Managers and Technical Team Leaders and IT Managers.

What’s New in the ABAP Development Environment in Enhancement Package 2?Traditionally "ABAP News” gives you an overview of upcoming ABAP language and ABAP Workbench innovations. But this time, don't expect to only hear about new features which are only available in distant releases of the SAP NetWeaver Application Server. We will show you the latest mouthwatering developments in the ABAP programming environment which have been downported and will already be available within the SAP NetWeaver enhancement package for SAP NetWeaver 7.0. We will cover important technological concepts like secondary keys for internal tables, string templates, boxed components and data streams, locators in Open SQL and demonstrate how they can be used in your ABAP programs. We will also demonstrate some exciting new features in our ABAP tools, e.g. the request based and layer aware debugging. But new features aren’t just present in the ABAP Workbench and Language only. We also continue to expand the Service Capabilities of the ABAP development environment. In this session we will also look at the latest capabilities in Service Enablement and Consumption - such as Service Variants, Logical Receiver Determination, SOAP 1.2 support, Asynchronous Services, etc. thomas Jung - SAP technology Solution Management intelligence Platform & NetWeaver - Market Development & Enablement, SAP labs, llC. Maximising your SAP investment for Compliant user ProvisioningIn these days of tight IT budgets, it is rare that an organisation can deploy all the latest tools for compliant user provisioning. Maximising the value of your technology investment means ensuring that we are not overlooking the potential uses of tools already deployed. If you have already deployed the SAP Portal and SAP HR, you have the building blocks for a user provisioning toolset. Using your HR Master Data and HR events for managing your SAP users can be efficient, improve compliance and reduce risks of unauthorised users - if you have strong processes in place. In this session we’ll discuss the benefits and the requirements.gretchen lindquist - SAP Security and Controls Compliance, Halliburton (uSA) (SAP Mentor)SAP release: ECC6Original go-live date: June 1998target Audience: IT Project Managers, System Administrators, Business Managers and Security Administrators.

Maximising your technology investments through Effective Change Management and trainingImplementing new technologies and upgrades across organisations to users with varying skill sets is a constant challenge as workforce demographics change and with many businesses operating in an increasingly global environment. History shows us that in most implementation projects training appears to be limited, challenging, overwhelming and often restricted by non-flexible timeframes. Through this, technology projects often fail to reach their full potential limiting the return on the initial and on-going investment. Ballance Agri-Nutrients will share how they successfully delivered SAP Training to over 400 staff across New Zealand by adopting a training model using Super Users from within the business. using SAP’s Solution Manager tool and Some good Old Fashioned Change Management and Communication to Make a Major integration Project Really Sing The goal - the integration of the SAP systems for National Foods (NF) and Dairy Farmers (DF) into a single SAP system - using a project team split between two cities - without compromising critical supply chain activities. Dairy Farmers users were going to experience a reduction in functionality and this had to be addressed. To assist the project team all possible features of Solution Manager were utilised: implementation roadmaps; business process definition; configuration management; system documentation; issue management; and test management. The project schedule was used to drive clarity of the tasks and accountabilities amongst all team members. To address support processes being designed and built as the system was handed over from the project team, we took the responsibility to incorporate system monitoring into the core solution roll out. This meant that the system monitoring processes were built, tested and documented prior to the implementation. • Focus on the core - no compromise on ‘Critical Supply Chain’ processes • Change Management - constant engagement with an aim to drive ownership from design

onwards • Project Scheduling - the key to managing a dispersed project team across multiple cities •Critical Path problems - attack early and attack hard •Resources - quality wins over price every time •Solution manager - the secret untapped potential • Business process monitoring - the forgotten component of developing a business solution • Go-live support - over supply onsite support personnel to build confidence early Chris gebbie - Program Manager - One Platform, National Foods limitedSAP release: ECC6Original go-live date: April 2007target Audience: CIOs, IT Managers and Project Managers.

A Case Study - SAP SOA integration at ScaleMany of today's organisations implement an SOA strategy to support interaction between multiple business applications and also provide application-agnostic web services for consumption by a variety of end-user channels. Within the Retail Banking industry, leading institutions have an architecture that utilises front-end channels for end-user interaction rather than providing direct user-access to underlying applications. Channel examples include customers via internet banking, IVR and ATMs and staff via branch and call centre applications. These primarily real-time transactions require a robust integration architecture that can support high transaction volumes in a reliable and scalable manner.CBA have implemented a SAP Banking Services (SAP-BS) solution that provides customer and account data management, product configuration, transaction processing, pricing and correspondence functions, utilising and extending SAP BS standard integration to create a suite of web-services called by the Bank's SOA Layer. The SOA layer is built on MS .net framework utilising MS BizTalk to provide orchestrated service interaction between the front-end and other integral applications. This presentation will provide an overview of the CBA's SAP SOA solution, the rationale behind key architectural decisions, major lessons learned, and medium and longer term CBA/SAP SOA roadmap.•CBA Background•Integration architecture•Key design decisions•Development and testing approach•Lessons learnt•RoadmapStuart Johnson - general Manager - integration & Service Oriented Architecture, Commonwealth Bank of Australiatarget Audience: CIO's, IT Managers, Software Architects, Business Managers and Developers.

Virtualisation - you Can lower tCO Without Sacrificing Performance, Availability and System Security!Currently many IT groups are being required to do more with a static or diminishing budget, whilst also being asked to offer users greater flexibility and improve provisioning time. CorpTech recently undertook a project to streamline its SAP landscape through the adoption of Virtualisation. The project centred around two key business requirements - satisfying multiple releases whilst supporting production and secondly minimising TCO without sacrificing performance, availability and system integrity. Interestingly, they also identified and satisfied other key business requirements which more than justified the value proposition for Virtualisation. This presentation will discuss the key architectural decisions and reasoning behind virtualisation, including:•Why Virtualise?• Which Virtual Platforms worked best for our SAP product landscape•Additional Business benefits realised•Future roadmap, to infinity and beyond!Darren Olm - Manager, infrastructure & SAP Solutions, Corptech SAP release: ECC6Original go-live date: February 2006target Audience: Solution Architects, Project Managers and Technical Team Leaders and Strategy Managers.

the Right Place to Build - landscape Considerations for Optimising your SAP EnvironmentEighteen months ago we were running most of our core business systems (HR, Payroll, Finance, GIS, BI) on early to mid 90's architectures. The idea was to move to 2009 in 18 months. The five year infrastructure refresh funding rolled around and we thought that we could use the money to save money. Top of the pops was Disaster Recovery (DR), Scalability, High Availability, Capacity, Storage, Productivity/Speed (time to deploy), Management and Performance.

We went about implementing a Virtual landscape including the VMWare product. However our success is not down to VMWare alone but to how we have integrated VMWare with other “Environment and Landscape” considerations. We also built a new Storage Area Network (SAN) stretched across our Primary and DR site; we built redundant fibre communications links and built Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) at the Primary and DR site. These things together have delivered enormous flexibility, scalability, capacity, productivity and redundancy.

• How to design the storage network and communications network to support it

• Designing the virtual environment and the Data Base and application environments on top of the SAN

• Implement some stuff, review the work and test and test and test

• Finally do a big DR test and watch everybody’s blood pressure rise

Applying Patterns to your ui - the Case for the Floor Plan ManagerIf you are currently building User Interfaces with Web Dynpro ABAP and you haven’t started looking at User Interface Patterns, now is the time to start.

Some of the benefits of introducing User Interface Patterns to your organisation are:

• Consistency - ensure a uniform look and feel across your applications

• Re-use - UI Components are built once and used many times

• Faster Application Development Cycles - utilising existing UI Building Blocks, applications can be assembled rather than built from scratch - moving the focus from the implementation details to the Business Process

Officially available in NetWeaver 7.01, the Floor Plan Manager is a UI Framework based on Web Dynpro ABAP, which enables the construction of applications utilising the UI Component approach, while enforcing standard SAP User Interface Patterns.

Using this Framework, the benefits of User Interface Patterns will be demonstrated and the following concepts within the Floor Plan Manager will be discussed.

•Programming with the Floor Plan Manager

• Building Re-Usable Component Libraries to use with the FPM

• What Generic User Interface Building Blocks are and how they can be used

•How to share data between Components

Can a government Workflow Design be innovative and Sexy?As part of a their ECC6 upgrade, the Department of Human Services (DHS) decided to throw their fragile 31H Workflow baby out with their Workplace-based bathwater. A new, focused design using ABAP OO workflow and Web Dynpro ABAP has resulted in an ESS-Workflow system consisting of one WDA application and one Business Workflow Template servicing numerous HR processes. As the single template workflow design drove the development, this presentation investigates the design process of the single workflow model. Key areas we will cover are:•Designing for common process flow• Using concepts of reusability and polymorphism to maximise effect

while minimising administration and developmentDHS uses ONE workflow template for all HR workflow usages - leave, overtime, higher duties, AdHoc Payments and more. The use of polymorphism, generic classes and the Extended Notification framework drove a design which is both simple to build and extend, while being easy to use, maintain and administer. gareth Ellem - technical team lead, Department of Human ServicesSAP release: ECC6

got Some Business Rules your Application Needs to Support? Don’t Code them…Business rules exist in every organisation, from product proposals, discount levels, eligibility rules, delegated financial authorities etc. They represent the core business logic of each organisation; they guide and control the basic business processes that form the back bone of any business transaction. Despite their importance we represent them in software in database triggers, application code, scripting languages and configuration tables and wonder why they are hard for the business to change and understand. This session will cover:

•Business rule technologies in SAP

•How you can invoke them

Full Business Process Automation using SAP interactive Forms by Adobe (iFbA) - the ASiCS StrategyASICS Oceania (ASICS) are leading the way in their innovative use of technology to automate time consuming and error-laden manual processes flowing into the SAP system. Through the use of IFbA, ASICS have implemented an interactive Sales Order form, without the need for end user training or change management, which has resulted in orders being generated in the SAP system in near real time, as well as removing the need for the admin overhead which previously had to chase up incomplete or inaccurate sales orders and manually enter them into the system.

Next ASICS plans to tackle their New Account Process, and has plans for their Pricing and non-stock Vendor Purchase Ordering and Invoicing through the strategic use of the IFbA technology.

However, despite the fact that the BPM market is mature, significant and growing, technological progress is limited and the BPM community structure is unfavourable with respect to the goals of BPM. Many BPM projects are primarily top-down initiatives, hence supported and pushed by senior executives (in contrast to e-mail or Wikis for instance). Furthermore, BPM is mostly heavy-weight in terms of infrastructure, tools and technologies and languages. Many BPM technologies are rather inflexible which makes them unsuitable for many processes where agility is necessary. Finally, inter-organisational process integration can be cumbersome and cost-intensive.

In order to address the growing BPM market appropriately in the future, four steps are necessary: Bring BPM into the Cloud; make BPM Lightweight; make BPM collaborative; make BPM a commodity. Alexander Dreiling will show a number of hands-on prototypical applications that support his vision of a Process-centric Application Platform-as-a-Service.

Dr. Alexander Dreiling - Research Program Manager - SAP Research, SAP Australia Pty ltdtarget Audience: Business or end users such as Business Managers, Business Process Users, Strategy Managers and Business Process Architects.
