Partnership – Student Transition

I would like to once again issue a warm greeting to all students and their families and hope that your child

is settling in to Redcliffe Special School for 2019.

This year sees another cohort of students who have transitioned from Woody Point Special School to

Redcliffe. Ric Day (WPSS Principal) and Bronwyn Paxton (WPSS – Deputy Principal) recently dropped in

to visit students who have transitioned from WPSS.

Meet and Greet 2019

Another successful “Meet and Greet” afternoon was held on Thursday 24/01/2019 between 1:30-3:00.

We had 40 families come in and meet their child’s new teaching team for 2019. RSS will look at further

developing for 2020 to ensure all families are notified through various mediums.

Day 8

At close of Day 8, we had 111 students enrolled at RSS for 2019. We still have a couple of students who

may enrol in the coming weeks from interstate. We will get our final staff allocation in the next few weeks

and this will see a slight increase in FTE for Teachers and Teacher Aides since the beginning of the year.

School Student Leadership Parade

The newly elected Student Leadership group were presented with their badges on Friday 08/02/2019.

It was wonderful to see so many proud families take the time to come and join in the celebration. Students

also showed their commitment by taking a pledge focussing on the RSS Way.

The School Captains and House Captains also attended a Leadership breakfast at Mueller College with

other school student leaders from the various schools from the Peninsula. From some brief conversations

with students and staff who attended, the day was beneficial to all.

P&C Annual General Meeting

The 2019 Annual General Meeting will be held at Redcliffe Special School on Wednesday 13 March 2019

at 1:30pm.

From the P&C President

Redcliffe Special School's P&C is here to help further our children's education, by helping raise the profile

of the school and the needs of our children. We engage with various local businesses for their support,

organise various fundraisers throughout the year, and work alongside our school community with the aim

of helping provide for even more valuable learning experiences for our amazing kids. We are committed to

supporting our great school and encourage all parents and carers to be a part of something great too.

Every day counts at school

Did you know that research shows a 1% improvement in a child’s attendance leads to a 2.6% improvement

in their educational success? Children who are unwell should always remain home but if you and your child

are having issues with attendance that do not relate to health and you’d like to discuss this please contact

your class teacher or a member of the school leadership team. The beginning of the school year is the

perfect time to establish good attendance habits for students. We are committed to working with families to

improve the attendance of every child. Remember Every Day Counts.

The Department of Education and Training has developed a range of free resources to promote the

importance of going to school, every day.

Research shows that school attendance leads to positive student outcomes, and can help children to build

social and emotional skills.

The new Every day counts resources, developed with the input of Solid Pathways

(www.indigenous.education.qld.gov.au/school/Pages/solid-pathways.aspx) students, includes an

animation, comic book, posters, as well as tips to help encourage students go to school every day.

Our Senior School Leaders went to a captain’s breakfast at Mueller College. We learnt how to be

influential leaders by personal development. People follow you because you develop them personally

J1 have been working on getting to know each other and working as a team.

Friday is exercise program to get fit and healthy. Here are some of

the students. We have just started “Boot Camp” today, and it was fun.

J2 consists of 8 awesome students who have agreed that 2019 will be their

BEST YEAR YET!

We all fit together just like a Jigsaw and we have managed to complete

some fabulous work already! We are motivated to do our best, but we will

have lots of fun along the way!!!

This semester, J3 are working on developing a personalised health plan. In

preparation for this, students have been preparing simple healthy snacks

as part of their cooking program. The most recent was guacamole and pita

bread chips. Students had fun using the garlic press and squeezing lime

juice into their mashed avocado.

J4 has enjoyed seeing other classes greet each other in different ways - so

we made up our own.

Fist bump, high five, using a communication device to say “Hello” or “Good

morning”, thumb high five, wave, pinkie shake, hand shake, make a claw,

elbow high five or give a smile!

Hi, Everyone!!!

Welcome to Term 1 2019! We have been off and running getting into our

programs and settling down for the busy year ahead.

I would love to introduce you all to M1. We are learning about ‘Friendships’,

‘About Us’ – being healthy (looking at food and exercise). Keep posted for

more about this as the semester goes on. Thank you!!

M2 each made their own Coat-of Arms over the past few weeks. It shows

things they like, where they live, along with some art work.

Introducing the Awesome M4 some!

Jordan, Eli, Elizabeth and Daemen have spent the first few weeks getting to

know each other and their teaching team Karen, Tash and Majella. They

have been developing new friendships in which Jordan has been a great

role model in following the RSS Way by showing others how to be kind and

caring to others.
