Cab Conveniences. Long hours in theCat Multi Terrain Loader are madeeasier by many standard conveniences,including a 12 volt DC power socket.Side, sliding windows offer protectionfrom the elements and allow fresh airventilation. Redesigned side windowsare removable for easy cleaning.Cabs with the door option installedfeature a new, automatic lock-outswitch that prevents accidental damageby disabling the loader functions whenthe door is open.

High-Efficiency Climate Controls.Operating in extreme temperatures canbe more comfortable with the optionalcab air conditioner and heater installed.Airflow is increased up to 83 percentand is now directed through six adjustablevents. Twice as many vents makesdefrosting the optional front door andside windows easier. The heater and airconditioner can be ordered separatelyor together.

Instrumentation. Cat Multi TerrainLoader instrument panels and gaugesare simple, easy to use and reliable.Bright indicator lights and audiblewarnings signal any critical systemsituation. Positive feel switches,with status lights, control most on/offfunctions. An engine air cleanerrestriction indicator is now in thecab for easier monitoring.

Visibility. Operating ease and productivityis enhanced on the Cat Multi TerrainLoader with excellent visibility. Thewide cab opening offers an exceptionalview of the work tool. The sloped angleof the engine compartment allowsexcellent visibility to the rear of themachine. A new, convex rearviewmirror option gives the operator apanoramic view of the machine’srear and sides. In addition, for bettervisibility in low-light conditions,the standard forward lights are nowadjustable 10 degrees in any direction.

Access/Egress. The Cat Multi TerrainLoader cab is designed to make machineoperation simple, productive andcomfortable. Getting in and out of thecab is easy through a wide opening withthree point grab irons and skid-resistantsteps. Tilt cylinders are neatly locatedunder the lift arms so not to interfere withoperator access and egress. Plenty ofuncluttered floor space makes steppinginto the cab even easier.

Cab Packages. Several cab packagesand options are available. The standardcab offers features such as an adjustablecontoured seat, cushioned contouredarmbar, dual throttle controls, pilotoperated joysticks, 12 volt DC powersocket and optional cup holder.

Excellent Visibility

Rubber Track Undercarriage.The rubber track undercarriage transfersmachine weight to the ground through24 wheeled contact points. Machineweight is evenly distributed throughoutthe track.

Large Contact Area. The large groundcontact area helps maximize tractionand minimize ground pressure.

Positive Track Drive. The elevated,internal positive track drive keeps drivecomponents away from ground debris.

Durable Rubber Track. The rugged,durable rubber track is lightweight andpliable, yet reinforced with high tensilestrength cords.

Torsion Axles. Heavy-duty, torsionaxles suspend each side of theundercarriage from the machineframe and are shock-absorbing.

Cat Diesel Power. The heart of theCat Multi Terrain Loader power trainis the Caterpillar 3024C Turbo dieselengine. This rugged, reliable, four cylinderengine offers aggressive performanceand a fast torque curve for quick response.It is also a low emission engine, fullyU.S. EPA Tier 2 compliant.

Dual Engine Throttle Controls. The handand foot throttles allow the operator tomatch engine speed to the task. The handthrottle is ideal for jobs requiringconsistent engine speed — such as coldplaning, trenching or snow blowing.The foot throttle lets the operatorvary engine speed and minimize fuelconsumption for other tasks such asload and carry, truck loading, gradingand dozing.

Anti-Stall Feature. The anti-stallsystem on the Cat Multi Terrain Loaderallows maximum power to the trackswhile minimizing engine stalling.This system helps maximize productivityfor experienced operators and makesit easier for novice operators to becomeproductive.

Closed-Loop, High Output HydrostaticSystem. The dual, closed-loop, axialpiston hydrostatic pumps are drivendirectly off the engine. The pumpsprovide pressure and flow to two fixeddisplacement motors that power thefinal drive motors, driving the tracks.No chains are used.

Power and Reliability. Maximum powerand reliability are built into the CatMulti Terrain Loader hydraulic system.In addition to providing power to drivethe tracks, this system also provides theloader lift and tilt functions, powers theauxiliary circuit to drive work toolsand drives the engine cooling fan.

Hydraulic Pumps. The hydraulic pumpsare driven off the engine for maximumhydraulic performance and reliability —no belts are used. Pumps are fixed-displacement and provide 60 L/min(15.6 gal/min) at high idle. Maximumsystem pressure for the loader andauxiliary circuit for the 247B and 257Bis 23 000 kPa and 3335 psi. Two fixeddisplacement gear pumps provide flowand pressure for the 257B high flowloader and auxiliary circuit at 100 L/min(26 gal/min) at high idle. Maximumsystem pressure for the loader andauxiliary circuit is 23 000 kPa (3335 psi).Control of the loader lift and tiltfunctions is by hydraulically-operatedjoystick controls for low effort andprecise operation.

Auxiliary Hydraulics. Standard auxiliaryhydraulics to power work tools isavailable through quick connect hydrauliccouplings that are rigidly mounted tothe loader arm. The Caterpillar line ofXT™ ES hoses and O-ring face sealshelp assure a leak-free system.

Reliability and Cleanliness. Hydraulicsystem reliability and cleanliness areimproved by using single componentsin place of multiple components, suchas the monoblock hydraulic valve andmonoblock pumps. Fewer leak pointsimprove reliability and result in acleaner machine. In addition, hydraulicoil flows through a 5-micron spin-onfilter. A filter restriction indicatoris located at the operator station.A 74-micron screen in the hydraulictank prevents larger debris fromentering the system and causingdamage to the hydraulic components.

Hydraulic Oil Cooler. A high-efficiencyhydraulic oil cooler lets the Cat MultiTerrain Loader work longer and harderin higher ambient temperatures, evenwhen using continuous high flow worktools. The high capacity hydraulic oilreservoir also helps keep operatingtemperatures lower.

The hydraulic system has built-in reliability and provides exceptional lift, breakout andauxiliary power to work tools.

Lift Arms. The loader lift arms are purpose-designed to provide a substantiallystraight load path into the machine anda good viewing area to the work tooland sides of the machine. The lift armsare also designed to handle heavy loadswithout twisting and bending forexceptional reliability.

Spherical Bearing. The sphericalbearing distributes the load from thelift arm into the frame by allowing thepin to rotate and pivot within the bore,reducing the chance of developingfatigue cracks in the arms.

Optional Quick Coupler

Quick Coupler. Work tools can bechanged quickly and easily with theCat Multi Terrain Loader’s quickcoupler system. The universal couplerinterface features:

• Low profile side plate designed foroptimum match to work tools andminimal material packing

• Opposing wedges ensure a tighttool fit, even after years of use

• Rugged design and large contact areaabsorbs loads and minimizes stress

• Vertical pins are chrome plated andlubricated for smooth engagementand prevention of corrosion

• Coupler allows excellent visibilityto work tools and unobstructed entryand exit to the cab

The standard quick coupler featuresmanual engagement and disengagementof work tools using two high leveragehandles.

An optional hydraulic quick coupler isalso available and allows engagementand disengagement of work toolswithout the operator needing to exit themachine. Control of the coupler by useof a rocker switch inside the cab makeswork tool changes quicker and easier.

Service Access. The rear door opens90 degrees for easy access to bothsides of the in-line (lengthwise)mounted engine.

Filters. All filters are easily accessible,which makes routine service quickerand virtually spill-free.

Cooling System. The radiator, hydraulicoil cooler and grill tilt up to increaseaccess to the cooling system duringmaintenance and allow easier cleaningof debris from between the grill andcooling packages. The cooling fanis hydraulically-driven for quieteroperation and to eliminate the serviceand maintenance that comes withbelt driven fans.

Easy Tilting Cab. The machine cab cannow be tilted rearward by an individualusing a single tool. The cab is held inplace by a self latching mechanism.When the cab is tilted back, all hydraulicpumps, motor, valves, lines and fuel tankare accessible for quicker, easier service.

Removable Belly Pan. A removablebelly pan section in the floor of themachine’s lower frame providesexcellent access for periodic cleaning.

Electrical and Hydraulic Lines.Cleaner routing of electrical andhydraulic lines compared to formermodels improves reliability andsimplifies service.

Maintenance Points. Maintenancepoints are grouped in easily accessiblelocations.

Caterpillar Scheduled Oil Sampling(S•O•SSM). The scheduled oil samplingvalves are standard to allow regularmonitoring of the engine and hydraulicoil quality.
