Greetings from the General Manager Enclosed in this fall-winter-spring brochure is the framework for our indoor season programs at the Westboro Tennis and Swim Club. Although the brochure is a great way to keep track of the main programs the Club offers, we will be adding many programs throughout the year which are not reflected in this brochure. Each month we post a calendar of special events and we frequently add new programs based on member suggestions. While we post bulletins regularly at the Club, our web site and Facebook are great places to keep up to date on our current month’s offerings.

We recognize our members are our most valuable asset; if you ever have any questions or comments, please speak to any of our managers below to have your concern immediately addressed.

Purpose: Gives students success with fundamental skills.

Tuesday Tuesday Thursday Thursday Saturday Saturday Sunday

4:00pm - 4:45pm 5:30pm – 6:15pm 4:00pm – 4:45pm 4:45pm – 5:30pm 9:30am - 10:15am

10:15am - 11:00am 11:30am – 12:15pm

Pre-Requisite: Comfortable in the water independently paddling around with a flotation device for short distances, able to submerge face in the water and blow bubbles, able to enter water by stepping or jumping from side. Usually children are 3-5 years old. Goals: Bob up and down; learn how to swim using a noodle & bubble properly; float on front and back; rollover from front to back and back to front; move in water using arm and leg motions; pickup submerged objects; knowledge of basic water safety. Overall goal is to require less dependency on flotation aids and be able to do skills without flotation aid to progress to level 3.

Purpose: Builds on skills in Level 2 through additional guided practice.

Tuesday Tuesday Thursday Thursday Thursday Saturday Saturday Saturday Sunday

4:45–5:30pm (low) 5:15–6:00pm (mid) 4:00–4:45pm (high) 4:45–5:30pm (mid) 5:30–6:15pm (low)

3 Low: Swimmers know motions, coordination is poor, endurance only for 10 yards of swimming.

3 mid: Stroke coordination is improved, kicks are generally correct, needs refinement and endurance. 3 high: Strokes are nearly perfect and goal is to be able to swim 25 yards of each stroke and kick.

CrossFit Kids is meant to be BIG fun for all ages. Broad-Inclusive-General fun. CrossFit Kids is a method for teaching Greg Glassman’s CrossFit to children ages 3-18. Based on the principle of Mechanics, Consistency and then Intensity, CrossFit Kids emphasizes good movement throughout childhood and adolescence. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement.

Boroughs CrossFit at Westboro Tennis and Swim Club!

What is CrossFit? The CrossFit Program was developed to enhance an individual’s competency at all physical tasks. Our athletes are trained to perform successfully at multiple, diverse, and randomized physical challenges. This fitness is demanded of military and police personnel, firefighters, and many sports requiring total or complete physical prowess. What are CrossFit Goals? CrossFit is not just a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. They are Cardiovascular and Respiratory endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy. What is special about Boroughs CrossFit? Our CrossFit program is distinctive, if not unique, in its focus on maximizing neuroendocrine response, developing power, cross-training with multiple training modalities, constant training and practice with functional movements, and the development of successful diet strategies. We have designed our program to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible. Is CrossFit for me? Absolutely! Your needs and the needs of an Olympic athlete differ by degree not kind. The amazing truth is that the very same methods that elicit optimal response in the Olympic or professional athlete will optimize the same response in the elderly. Squatting is an example of a movement that is universally valuable and essential yet rarely taught to any but the most advanced of athletes. Of course, we can’t load your grandmother with the same squatting weight that we’d assign an Olympic skier, but they both need to squat! Please see our website for our current CrossFit class schedule or contact Cyndy Bohn ([email protected]) for more information.
