Mission statement:The Wallkill River School is a nonprofit artist’scooperative that runs an art school and fineart gallery as well as a plein air workshopseries on farms and open spaces. Ourmission is to preserve open space throughour art and art activism, and create economicopportunities for Orange County artists. Wehave published a local foods cookbook forOrange County, based on what our farmsgrow, when it’s in season, and where to findit. We run a gallery representing 29 OrangeCounty based artists, featured in monthlyexhibits, with an art leasing program, andapprenticeship program to encourage thenext generation of Emerging Artists. We runan art school that offers fine art instructionfor adults and children in painting, drawing,printmaking, clay, and offers many regionalartists the opportunity to teach their skill.Our plein air class visits preserved andendangered farms and open spaces fromMay-October, and takes artists out of the cityto farm fields for painting class. Farm/Art Trail is an arts-ag partnership where 15 artistshave been painting on 15 farms throughout OrangeCounty. The 15 artists will show their work throughout2014 in our galleries in 15 solo shows, as well as in thefarm stands. The trail is featured on a geo-cache mapon our website and O.C. Tourisms. It is open to the pub-

lic. Grand Opening is Sept. 13 from 12-6 when all the featuredartists will be demonstrating live at each farm. The Farm/Art Trail ismade possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with thesupport of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State legisla-ture.

The Emerging Artists featured each month areOrange County based artists who have neverhad a solo show before. We mentor these newartists by partnering them with more establishedartists and helping them develop a bio, portfolio,and an exhibition. This mentorship is made pos-sible by the New York State Council on the Artswith the support of Governor Andrew Cuomoand the New York State legislature.
