Welcome to the Table Many years ago, when my children were very young, I came home from grocery shopping and we sat down for some Antipasti. (My husband is Italian/Irish, and Antipasti consists of appetizers of cured meats, cheese, bread, and wine.) One of my boys commented that the bread and wine were just like the Eucharist that we consume during Mass! This was a teaching moment if there ever was one! The Catechism of the Catholic Church in paragraph 1324 states that the Eucharist is “The source and summit of the Christian life.” What does this mean? It means that the Trinity is the “source of man and woman” because in the book of Genesis “God said ‘let us make man in our image, after our likeness.’ This points to the Trinitarian life of God. The Trinity is also the “summit” of the goal of our lives. We are created in the image and likeness of God and we are called to share in the life of the Trinity for eternity. This weekend, our parish community is blessed to witness fifty-one of our faith filled children receive their First Eucharist. Many of us witnessed when these children were baptized and
received the light of Christ, becoming part of the family of God that we call Church. Today, we witness as they receive the Eucharist for the first time and join us at the Lord’s Table. When we see the children dressed in their Sunday best, we know that this is a special celebration. The Eucharistic Prayer retells the story of Jesus’ Passover from death to life, our escape from sin and death, and our adoption as sons and daughters of God. We repeat this every Sunday because we need to remember it each day of our lives. We are nurtured every time that we receive the Eucharist and today is the first taste of this for our First Eucharist children. As adults, when we receive the Eucharist, we are called to go out and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. This week, what is one obstacle that you can overcome so that you can proclaim the gospel of Jesus’ love for us, to others?

Faith Formation is more than just religious education. It is a life long journey towards a
deeper relationship with Christ. Ongoing Faith Formation Program will Resume in September These classes meet on Sundays, Pre-K3 through 1st Grade: 9-10 a.m. 2nd Grade through 8th Grade:10:15-11:30 a.m. High School Confirmation 5:00-6:30 p.m. Rehearsal for Candidates and Sponsors in the Church.
Sacramental Preparation You may register for this program if your child has already completed one year of Ongoing Faith Formation or is enrolled in a Catholic school. This program is for baptized children in 2nd grade and higher. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Are you an adult seeking baptism? Or were you baptized Catholic as a child but have not celebrated the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist? This program offers the opportunity to meet in a small group setting to learn more about our faith and prepare for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist during Easter.

CLOW (Children’s Liturgy of the Word) During the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday Masses, children are dismissed to the Parish Ministry Center Chapel for an age appropriate Liturgy of the Word. The children return to church during the Presentation of the Gifts.

Outreach Dinner There is an Outreach Dinner taking place today Sunday, May 7, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in our Parish Small Hall. All Senior Citizen members of our Parish are invited, along with a guest, to this meal followed by BINGO.
Financial Assistance for Parishioners

Fresh Fruit and Vegetables needed For those of you who have back yard fruit trees with an over abundance of fruit and/or gardens with vegetables please consider donating what you can to Community Ministry. The fruit and
vegetables are a welcome addition to the food that we distribute to those seeking assistance.
Food & Diaper Collection Most of you are aware of the Community Ministry Collection Barrels that are located in our Church. During the month of May, we will continue to request canned Soup, Pork & Beans, Chili, Macaroni & Cheese and Tomato Sauce. We are also in need of Baby Diapers (Size 3 – 5). These are items that we do not receive often from the Second Harvest Food Bank. Please feel free to drop donations in the barrels in the Church, the barrel in the Foyer of the School or bring items to the Parish Office.

COMMUNITY MINISTRY TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The fact that many monastic churches do not have a prominent tabernacle shapes the patterns of liturgical prayer. Monastic communities often protect the ancient value of “receiving from the same sacrifice,” meaning that the communicants are assured that what they eat and drink in the Holy Mysteries actually comes from the same celebration. It surprises many to learn that the Church does not foresee, nor does it provide for, Communion of the faithful from the reserved Sacrament. Liturgical laws have long defended your right to receive from the same sacrifice, the same Mass, that you attend. At one time, of course, the bread for the Eucharist was the ordinary bread of the day, except unleavened, probably prepared at home. It was broken and distributed to the faithful. Early on the loaf itself was referred to as the hostia in Latin, meaning the “sacrifice,” the same word for the sacrificial animal in Jewish worship, and for Jesus as the Lamb of God. By giving his life on the cross, Jesus became the hostia for us. To this day in the Greek Church, one of the tasks of the priest’s wife is to bake the bread for the Divine Liturgy, sometimes in a bakery oven dedicated to that purpose and called a “Bethlehem.” Today’s familiar individual hosts first appeared in the eleventh century at about the time when tabernacles were coming into use. The turn away from “bready” bread allowed the hosts to be reserved since they did not spoil like regular bread, and made the annual “Easter duty” counts easier. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Parking Lot Solar Panels are Coming!!! St. Justin has been approved to receive a Parking Lot Solar Panel system. Beginning on Monday, May 8, a section of our Parking Lot will be fenced off to begin the construction of this system. It will take no longer then 8 weeks (although it could be as little as 5 weeks) to complete this project. Please be patience with this minor inconvenience as it will be a benefit to our community in the long run.
