End of Year Exams It is that time of the year again when our Secondary students start to prepare for their end of year exams All students from Year 7 to 10 will take exams in most of their subjects during the week starting the 19th June A finalised schedule for these exams will be sent home to parentsguardians after the half-term break Exams can be a stressful time for both students and parents So how can we best cope at this time of year It is important for students to prepare well to perform their best in the end of year exams There is not one definitive way to ensure that your child performs well in their exams However some factors can have an impact on how they do Good practice for revision bull Creating a stress-free environment around the child in the lead up to their exam is important Any potentially troubling issues within the home should be kept well away from them if possible bull Go offline Students can often be distracted by social media and other applications on their devices at home Concentration is important for retention of knowledge bull Encouraging the student in their learning is important to keeping them motivated Parents can do this by helping their child to revise the topics bull Make sure they are focusing on those topics that they have difficulty with rather than spending lots of time on those that they already know really well This will not only make them use their time more efficiently it will also help them to stay interested But beware It is important that the student does not become burnt out in their preparation for an exam If they do too much revision they will become tired and will lack motivation It is therefore essential to get the balance right between preparing and relaxing This is much the same as a professional athlete who needs to be at their peak performance on the day of their race We wish all our students the best of luck in their revision and in their forthcoming exams Ian Barker Assistant Head of Secondary
