Three elements to a recruiter-employer resume1.Focus

2.Core competencies or transferable skills

3.Accomplishments

“If your resume lacks any of these crucial elements, then you are probably not capturing the attention you deserve, and you are missing out on important interview opportunities”.

1. Employers and recruiters time are at a premium, they must know your career focus within seconds of opening your resume

2. If your career focus isn’t clearly stated, you can’t assume the reader will take the time to search through your resume for clues.

3. “Career Objective” statements are worthless if they contain no real information about the specific position you are looking for and industry expertise you offer.

“The best objective statements are concise and to the point”

Focus

1. Employers and recruiters want to know if you have the required core competencies or transferable skills to accomplish the job.

2. Capture and hold attention by including only the competencies relating specifically to your focus.

3. Do not muddy up your message by including extraneous skills.

“Remember the all-important rule of relevancy, you will go a long way toward keeping the employers attention on your key skills”.

Core Competencies or Transferable Skills

1. The single biggest mistake that virtually all job-seekers make, most people write job descriptions resumes.

2. Clear, concisely stated accomplishments are the best way to distinguish yourself from the competition.

3. Define accomplishments that illustrate the strength of you core competencies, transferable skills and focus.

4. An accomplishment is only valuable to your resume if it promotes the skills your target employers are looking for

“ Remember, with record-high resume response to job openings, employers and recruiters require solid reasons to recommend you for consideration over the mountain of other candidates.”.

Dear Sir or Madam: As a current student at John Carroll University, I have acquired many skills and abilities that would allow me to become an excellent addition to your staff. I would be honored to be considered as a candidate. I will receive my Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Management with a concentration in Human Resources at John Carroll University in May. Experience and education has provided me with communication, computer, personal, and social skills needed to excel in your company. My employment history at XXX has provided me with employee benefits audit experience and communication skills. I have managed clients in varying situations that enabled me to adapt my personal and communication skills to match the needs of my clients. In addition, performing employee benefits audits has enabled me to learn about the audit business and the benefits provided to employees in different industries. This experience can help me by managing the employees in a way that better serves the company’s needs and by helping me develop the skills and insights necessary to become a future leader.  Courses in computer training have allowed me to be proficient in Microsoft Office as well as other types of computer databases. I have designed advertisement flyers using Microsoft Publisher, created letters, memos, and business reports using Microsoft Word, and had training with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and SAP. Courses in business communications have provided me with written communication skills to produce reports and documents efficiently. Other courses in the Management and Liberal Arts core have allowed me to become a well-rounded individual and master the skill of presenting myself professionally. Enclosed is a résumé that summarizes my qualifications. I look forward to meeting with you to further discuss my credentials.

Sincerely,  Joe Smith
