The Lakewood Experience

At Lakewood, we equip students with the skills

they need for today’s competitive job market.

We focus on giving students opportunities to

help them develop turfgrass management

skills on a championship golf course, and we

put an emphasis on experiential training and

learning through daily course management

activities. Our superintendent internship pre-

pares students for careers as professional su-

perintendents at golf courses or in other sports

arenas. Students learn what it takes to provide

championship greens and course conditions

on a daily basis, and upon successful comple-

tion of the program, we help provide employ-

ment at Lakewood CC or at one of the great

many clubs in the Greater Cleveland Area!

Internship training and duties include:

Daily course set up

Mowing practices and bunker mainte-

nance

Calibration and application of pesticides

and fertilizers

Restoration and maintenance of perennial

beds around the golf course

Working on and leading course projects

Lakewood Country Club was established in

1921 as a premiere private country club offer-

ing its members unparalleled amenities and

services. Lakewood has hosted numerous PGA

events including the 1966 and 1968 Cleve-

land Open, and more recently, the 2014

Web.com Cleveland Open and the 2015 Rust-

Oleum Championship. The Club offers its dis-

tinguished members the environment, facili-

ties and services that satisfy their sports, so-

cial and business needs and interests.

Lakewood Internship Experience

At Lakewood, we put the “F” in fun! We are a

family-centered, private country club on Cleve-

land’s West Side that offers state-of-the-art

facilities and amenities for golf, swimming,

tennis, fitness and social activities. Our 18-

hole, A.W. Tillinghast golf course is the corner-

stone of our existence, and we host a number

of club and corporate golf tournaments annu-

ally. At LCC, golf is more than a game—we

take pride in the tradition of excellence!
