Some history on North Wolfeboro Wolfeboro began as a farming community with the activity center being Dimon’s Corner. This settlement was on the stagecoach route from Dover to Conway. Dimon’s Corner marks the meeting of Trask Mountain Road, North Wolfeboro Road, Haines Hill Road and Stoneham Road. It has represented the focal point of the settlement from its beginning and in some quarters was once used as the name for the entire hamlet. The name derives from that of the first merchant who had a store and tavern at the crossroads, Samuel Dimon, who was here between 1795 and 1808. Former buildings in North Wolfeboro include schools, a tailor shop, blacksmith shop, church, town pound, several stores, and a “barn where dances held.” Most were lost to fire or torn down and the materials used for something else. Today its chief attraction has to be the large number of historic houses, all built between 1784 and 1840 and all looking much the same now as they did then.
