HINT: Take really good notes! YOU CAN USE THEM FOR TESTS!

With Miss Dine

3.08: Function Operations 1 (F-BF-1b): Write a function that describes a

relationship between two quantities.

3.10: Function Inverses (F-BF-4a): Solve an equation of the form f(x) = c for a

simple function f that has an inverse and write an expression for the inverse. For example, f(x) = 2x3 or f(x) = (x + 1)⁄(x – 1) for x ≠ 1.

REMEMBER: We can’t get through EVERYTHING in class. Make sure you are reading the online lessons!

Be able add or subtract two functions

Understand what a function inverse is

Be able to find the inverse of a function

Adding functions together:

f(x) + g(x)

(f + g)(x)

Find (f + g)(x)

f(x) = 2x + 5 g(x) = -5x + 4

Subtracting two functions:

f(x) - g(x)

(f - g)(x)

Watch the order!

g(x) – f(x)

(g – f)(x)

Find (g - f)(x)

f(x) = 2x + 5 g(x) = -5x + 4

f(x) = -2x – x2 + 8

g(x) = x2 – 12x – 7

(f + g)(x)

(f – g)(x)

(g – f)(x)

A function that can be used to model the cost of

producing x coffee mugs is c(x)= 12 + 8x, and the

function that can be used to model the amount

of money to be made from selling x coffee mugs

is m(x) = 17x + 2.

Write a function p(x) to represent the total

profit of selling x number of coffee mugs.

Steps to finding an inverse

f(x) = x2 + 5
