STAFFING UPDATE This week we welcome David Wieland, who will be ‘workshadowing’ our School Chaplain, Andrew Bell on his work days for the remainder of this Term and Term 3. BEDAZZLED NUMBER 1 The Bedazzled Number 1 was awarded on assembly on Monday this week to the class who consistently had the tidiest desks across the week. Many classes were noted as having made a huge effort in this regard. Congratulations to 5R who were awarded the accolade for this week! The challenge for next week is around having the tidiest classroom . We very much appreciate the hard work of our cleaners and leaving the classroom tidy at the end of the day helps them in their work.

Congratulations 5R!

FIDGET SPINNERS You may be aware of the rise in popularity of fidget spinners and we are seeing many of these coming along to school. Fidget spinners, like all toys, are best kept at home to reduce the risk of loss, theft or breakage. Students have been advised to keep fidget spinners at home. If a student has a medical condition and a medical practitioner has recommended this specific device as therapy necessary for school, please contact your child’s teacher, or the office, to discuss this further. CURRICULUM PARADES There will be no curriculum parades this week. MEDICATION Please note that only prescription medication can be administered at school. All medication must be kept at the office (not in classrooms). Parents/carers must complete an ‘Administration of Medication’ form to accompany the medication and all medication will be administered from the office.

Positive Behaviour for Learning News

This week the PBL lesson focus is managing yourself and not others. This behaviour can be promoted at home by encouraging students to do the things they know they should and not interfere with their brothers and sisters, or anyone else in the home. If they are unsure, then they should take their concerns to someone who is responsible for everyone’s care.

Welcome to Wellbeing Week

From the 12th - 16th of June , Newtown State School will host its first ‘Wellbeing Week’. This week will be a great opportunity to focus on the important role that schools play in supporting the health and wellbeing of students. There will be a range of things happening in the school throughout the week for staff, parents and students. Family wellbeing is important for building confident, healthy and happy students. Newtown State School will be supporting the wellbeing of our families, by offering the following sessions: 13th June 8:45am - 9:45am: Strength-Based Parenting Information Session (Free) This information session will provide an opportunity for parents and carers to come together and learn about character strengths and how to use them to build a positive family culture. This session will be facilitated by Amy Cook, a current parent at Newtown State School, who is also a trained youth mentoring coach. 16th June 8:45am - 9:30am: Mum's and Under 5's Yoga ($5) Kristy Jackson, from Moving Mountains, will be running a Mums & Bubs Yoga session from 8:45am in the hall, no experience necessary. This a great

opportunity for parents and carers to take some time out for themselves -

under 5's are welcome. This session will incur a $5 fee,

payable on the morning.

Please register at the school office if you are interested in either session, as places are limited.
