News about winners, Scratch-Off prizes, new games and more!

35 MILLION WINNERS!Over 35 Million Winners in August/September 2006!

It’s just as nerve-wracking scratching the Texas Lottery® Deal or No Deal instant ticket as watching the show, according to Taylor resident Kenneth Sharp. The ticket mirrors the television game show, Deal or No Deal, on NBC. After comparing amounts that gradually became eliminated, Sharp found himself the first recipient of the top prize for the new ticket, $1 million ($50,000 paid annually for 20 years).

“I took it home and read through the instructions,” said Sharp. “It’s a process of elimination. I saw the million-dollar prize wasn’t listed to be eliminated, and I just worked it out from there.”

Sharp told Texas Lottery officials he plans to retire soon from his 12-hour-a-day, six-day-a-week work schedule. “My wife and I are also going to pay off some bills,” he added. Sharp purchased his ticket at Lake Drive Texaco, located at 312 West Lake Dr. in Taylor.

Matthew Burns of Addison was working to overcome a spring cold and get his thoughts around the fact that

he was a recent Texas Lottery winner. In early June he claimed the top prize of $75,000 on the Texas Lottery Bonus Break The Bank Scratch-Off game.

“I’m just starting to realize I won. It’s been so much fun,” Burns said. “I mean, wow, it is amazing!”

Burns said that he plans to pay off all his bills and perhaps set the rest aside for a down payment on a new home. He bought his winning ticket at Sunny’s Beverage Zone located at 2661 Midway Rd. in Carrollton.

Just in the nick of time, Rodolfo Dufour of Monterrey, Mexico claimed a $750,000 prize from a ticket that matched the first five numbers for the February 7 Mega Millions® drawing. Dufour claimed his prize on July 31, just four days before the ticket was set to expire!

Dufour was notified by family members of a sign posted at the selling retailer regarding the missing ticket. Players have 180 days from the date of a drawing to collect prizes for Cash Five®, Pick 3™, Texas Two Step®, Lotto Texas® and Mega Millions®. Dufour’s ticket was set to expire at the close of business on August 4. Talk about a close call!

Dufour said that Mega Millions is his favorite Texas Lottery game and that he plans to put his winnings in the bank. Dufour purchased his ticket at the Circle K store at 200 E. Hwy. 83 in McAllen.

Tanya Mock of Willis says that 3 is her lucky number. The prize-bearing Run the Table ticket she purchased was number three on the roll. “Because I frequent the store where I bought the ticket,” she said, “Sam [the store clerk] knew it was my lucky number, so of course I bought the ticket.”

Mock scratched the ticket in the parking lot of the store. “When I scratched off the three bars, I looked a little closer to make sure I wasn’t just seeing things, and then I ran inside so Sam could tell me I wasn’t crazy!” she said.

She wasn’t crazy—she really had uncovered a $1,000 prize! Mock said she planned to send some of her prize money to a friend who is pursuing his dream of professional motocross racing. She bought her ticket at 830 Marina Store and Campground located at 12155 FM 830 Rd. in Willis.

Persistence pays off, as Raymundo Franco of Odessa can attest. Franco has been playing the same numbers

on the Cash Five game for 12 years, and in August he won $10,063 by matching all five numbers.

“I was at the library reading the newspaper, and when I checked the results, I felt a shock and I also felt very happy.” The most money Franco had won

previously on a lottery ticket was $628.

Franco planned to use his winnings to buy a truck. He bought his ticket at Albertson’s #4215 located at 2751

Country Rd. West in Odessa.

Dee Gelsomini of The Woodlands often buys randomly chosen lottery tickets as gifts to send with birthday cards to friends and family.

“This ticket happened to be left over after I’d given the others away,” Gelsomini said. “Lucky me!” The Jacks In the Box ticket she kept bore a $1,000 prize!

“I had actually forgotten about the ticket,” she said. “My daughter found it laying on my desk and scratched off the ticket. I thought she was joking when she yelled out, ‘We won!’”

Gelsomini said she’d give half of her winnings to her children “so they’ll stop hitting me up for money,” and use the rest to go shopping and out to dinner with her husband. She purchased her winning ticket at Bob’s Meat and Grocery located at 509 21st St. in Galveston.

When a store clerk told Doris Arrington of San Marcos that she would need to visit a Texas Lottery claim center to collect her prize from the September 1 Cash Five drawing, she assumed she must have matched four of five numbers and could expect a payout of several hundred dollars. Imagine her surprise when claim center personnel broke the news that she had in fact matched all five numbers in that drawing and that she was due $34,226!

“I was more than happy to drive up here for a few hundred dollars,” Arrington explained. “But when they told me how much I had actually won, I was so surprised I was just speechless.”

Arrington said she and her husband always play the same numbers, based on family birthdays, but the most they’d ever won before was about $100. She purchased her

winning ticket at the Sac N’ Pac #116 located at 1002 Hwy. 80 in San Marcos.
