Visit our web site to explore the complete range of string and piano programs, complete with four levels of orchestra and lots of optional classes! We have programs for children of all ages through the teen years: Sibling Class for siblings aged 4 and 5; Mini Institute in violin, viola, cello, and piano (a morning program for Book 1 students only); Junior, Intermediate & Senior programs in violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano PLUS! A wide variety of exciting optional courses. Young Artist Program (YAP) The Young Artist Programs classes are open to senior students of violin, cello and piano, and provide instruction in a setting that moves towards traditional music college/university teaching while maintaining roots in Suzuki philosophy and pedagogy. Video auditions are due May 1st. Visit the SOSI 2018 website to apply. Cello YAP Katie Schlaikjer (ON) Students Eligible: Cellists who have completed Suzuki Bk. 7. Piano YAP Marnie Van Weelden (ON) Students Eligible: Pianists who have completed the Mozart, Sonata, K. 330 (Suzuki Bk. 6) or who are working at the Grade 9 piano or above (RCM or Conservatory Canada). Program includes: 4 Daily public Master Class (half-hour per student) with Marnie Van Weelden. 4 Daily Chamber Music class. 4 Daily Advanced Percussion class. 4 Solo and ensemble performances at the end of the week. revisiting Book 1 Violin with Viola in MindJulia Hardie (TX)

The revisiting Book 1 course is designed for violin andviola teachers who have registered a minimum of Unit 1and have at least one year of Suzuki teaching experience.It aims to strengthen and update one’s teaching by

approaching the repertoire and its concepts from a fresh perspective. Julia Hardie will offer special insights for viola teachers.

Discussions cover the foundation of Book 1, including application of theSuzuki philosophy, teaching points, layering of skills, addressing challengesof the beginning student, and more.

The format of the course includes lecture, small group discussion, studentobservation, possible role-playing, and playing demonstration of theteaching points and concepts. Participants will receive an onlinequestionnaire from the SAA, to be completed prior to the start of thecourse.

Saturday Aug.18 to Sunday Aug.19Beyond the Suzuki repertoireBrian Lewis (TX)

A 10-hour enrichment course focusing on developingtone, techniques and musicality beyond the Suzuki books.
