Pear shapes find themselves with a slim torso ample hips, thighs and bottom.

To balance hips, think wool or polyester blends for pants: these choices will help smooth a pear shape’s silhouette. For skirts, avoid A-line cuts: skirts should hug a pear shape’s body, opt for straight and fitted cuts. To balance the upper body, choose jackets with pad inserts and/or tops with embellished necklines.

Straight shapes have a proportional body. Torso and hips are equal in width and there is little difference between chest, waist, and hip measurements.

For tops choose pieces that dip down to the décolleté, which will serve to elongate the torso. Look for skirts that will hug the body; these cuts help create the illusion of curves. Add structure to the silhouette by wearing tailored jackets or embellished pieces.

Full shapes are defined by curves: a generous bust, wide rib cage, full tummy, narrow hips and slender legs.

To balance the midsection, and highlight slender legs, wear A-line skirts and opt for items with large waistbands. Avoid fitted tops which bring attention to the midsection. Choose tops with v-necklines, they help elongate the body and draw the eye up.

Hourglass shapes have a well-defined waist, curved hips, and legs that go for miles.

Choose pieces that will highlight a well-defined waist, these include wrap tops and tops with a complimenting belt. Avoid loosely-fitted outfits at all costs; these styles will hide the hourglass shape. To balance hourglass curves, choose pencil skirts.
