Editorial Dear members of the Biocenter! Summer has gone and the third BNL is finally here. I am sure you have long been waiting for it J I hope you had an enjoyable summer break and the chance to start refreshed into the new academic year. I know, this asks for extra efforts and poses a challenge to those who are involved in teaching or support the execution of our curriculum by other means, but also for the many active researchers who teach, as they may need to downgrade on what they like to do most, i.e., science. Don´t give in, you´ll get through this J. Looking at the collection of mypoint news related to the publication of exciting research findings that accumulated since the last BCNL, I have to say, I am impressed by what has been achieved in such a short period of time. I do not only want to congratulate those who managed to publish their latest research, but clearly also those who managed again to attract research funding in the season of drought to sustain their work or organized other academic events and meetings. As a short preview of what will happen next in terms of social events, I would like to draw your attention to the upcoming “open” Christmas Party, scheduled for December 18th this year. I hope you will join in again and contribute, as in the past. We will organize drinks and music, to make it another memorable social event at the Biocenter. I hope to see you all there. On behalf of all involved, Andreas

The Austrian Government will support the Austrian Platform for Preciscion Oncology, headed by ZLATKO TRAJANOSKI, head of the Bioinformatics at the Biocenter. Within this program, the private mutation spectrum of cancer patients shall be defined to optimize treatment. ZLATKO TRAJANOSKI has received funding from the FWF to participate in an international project aiming to predict cancer treatment responses and prognoses by a systems approach in combination with available genetic data from cancer patients. Zwei davon kommen aus dem Biozentrum, das Forschungsvorhaben „Is there a code behind the code?“ von MATTHIAS ERLACHER von der Sektion für Genomik und RNomik und das Projekt „AGMO: Einfluss auf die Adipozytendifferenzierung“ von KATRIN WATSCHINGER von der Sektion für Biologische Chemie. Die Projekte werden auf Basis der Förderempfehlung des FWF im Rahmen der Kooperationsvereinbarung „Matching Funds“ vom Land Tirol ko-finanziert. On 2nd October 2017, the Science Fund approved four individual projects at the Medical University of Innsbruck. Two research projects will be implemented at the Biocenter. The project of MATTHIAS ERLACHER, Division for Genomics and RNomics, "Is there a code behind the code?" and KATRIN WATSCHINGER’S project „AGMO: Influence on adipocyte differentiation”. They are co-funded by the province of Tyrol based on the FWF funding recommendation under the "Matching Funds" cooperation agreement. In the background of many successful research projects at the Medical University Innsbruck you find the members of the Core Facility "Protein Micro-Analysis”, led by HERBERT LINDNER.
