Reflection “Mary is the first and best of the disciples. We see in her life her obedience to God in her fiat(her “yes”) but also her faithful love for Jesus. She teaches us when it is time to go “in haste” as she did to Elizabeth to celebrate the birth of John the Baptist (Luke 1:39). Mary also teaches us to ponder all things in our hearts (Luke 2:19). Mary sets an example for us, showing us what it means to be a disciple and catechist. Invoke her intercession in your ministry, and call upon her often. She knows our struggles, our concerns, and our joys. Share your heart with her!”

2nd World Day of the Poor, Nov. 18: Pope Francis has released his message for the 2018 World Day of the Poor, which is observed throughout the world on the 33rd Sunday of ordinary time, this year, Nov 18, 2018. The message reflects on Psalm 34 and is titled: This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him. Pope Fran-cis is urging all Christians to combat in-difference to the suffering and marginali-zation of the most needy. This year's message affirms the work of CCHD to empower and stand in solidarity with those living in poverty. Here is a pastoral aid, including a homily help and Prayers of the Faithful, for use on the World Day of the Poor. http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/human-life-and-dignity/poverty/upload/world-day-of-poor-2018-pastoral-aid.pdf Read the Pope’s mes-sage here: https://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/messages/poveri.index.html

November and All Souls’ Day Praying among our faithful brothers and sisters brings comfort and companionship for those who grieve. All Souls’ Day, November 2nd, celebrates this custom. If you have lost a child during infancy or pregnancy, on this day you can hold your lost little one in your heart and in the community of others at the cele-bration of mass. May All Souls’ Day bring you peace and comfort. If you are griev-ing after an abortion and would like to be connected with professional help includ-ing counseling, spiritual direction and reconciliation, please call the confidential Project Rachel message line: (505) 831-8238.

Protecting and Respecting Human Life and Dignity.

Schedule your presentation! As the CCHD Intern, I (Rachel Baca) am excited to teach fel-low Catholics about Catholic

Social Teaching (CST). Since October is Respect Life Month, our due diligence as Catholics is on fire now more than ever to protect the life and dignity of the hu-man person, which is also the 1st princi-ple of CST. As our lives go on, we can sometimes forget about those around us and only focus on ourselves, but human lives are constantly under attack from modern societal laws and choices. So as individuals, families, groups, and organi-zations, we need to show God how much we respect his people, by praying, reach-ing out, learning, and acting together as the Body of Christ. The vulnerable need our help. I am available to do interactive presentations, retreats, and resources on CCHD, Catholic Social Teaching, and Pov-erty Awareness. See box for information.

Quote of the Month from Pope Francis

“The Lord promises re-

freshment and freedom to

all the oppressed of our world, but he

needs us to fulfill his promise. He needs

our eyes to see the needs of our broth-

ers and sisters. He needs our hands to

offer them help. He needs our voice to

protest the injustices committed thanks

to the silence, often complicit, of so

many. I should really speak of many

silences: the silence of common sense;

the silence that thinks, ‘it’s always been

done this way;’ the silence of ‘us’ as

opposed to ‘you.’ Above all, the Lord

needs our hearts to show his merciful

love towards the least, the outcast, the

abandoned, the marginalized.”

- Pope Francis, Homily, Holy Mass for

Migrants, July 6, 2018

The Spanish Language TV Mass airs on My50TV(KASY) In an effort to reach out to our brothers and sisters whose primary language is Spanish and who are not able to attend Sunday Mass at their local parishes due to illness, age, or other issues, the Offices of Hispanic Minis-try and Worship and Christian Initiation offer the transmission of the Spanish TV Mass. This mass airs every Sunday at 7:00am on My50TV (KASY) - channel 50 on regular TV or channel 12 on Comcast (check your indi-vidual TV signal provider for other channels). For any questions regarding the transmission of the Spanish TV

Mass, call the Office of Hispanic Ministry (see box).
