4th Grade Weekly Spelling Practice Below is a list of activities to help you practice your spelling words. Each activity is worth a certain point value. Every week, on Friday morning, you must turn in your spelling word rubric with the activities you chose to complete attached. Your spelling practice activities must equal 100 points each week in order to earn full credit. Points will be deducted if you do not write down the activities completed (5 points) and for miss-spelled words (will vary). Points will be awarded as follows: 100 points = A+ 80-89 points = B 60-69 points = D 90-99 points = A 70-79 points = C 59 points or less = F Choice Spelling Activity Instructions Point Value 1: ABC Order Write your words in alphabetical order. 20 2: Reverse ABC Order Write your spelling words in reverse alphabetical order. 20 3: Rainbow Colors Write each word in rainbow colors. First, write the word in red crayon/colored pencil. Next, trace over the word in blue crayon/colored pencil. Finally, trace over the word in green crayon/colored pencil. 20 4: Typing Type your spelling words. Choose your favorite font, and be sure to print it out. 20 5: Word Stairs Write your words in word stairs. Example: S SP SPE SPEL SPELL 20 6: Red Vowels Write your spelling words in pencil. Then, use a red marker, pen, or colored pencil to trace over the vowels. 20 7: Consonant Circles Write your spelling words in pencil. Then, use a pen or colored pencil to circle the consonants. 20 8: 3 X Each Write each spelling word three times each. 25 9: Word Sandwich Look up each word in the dictionary. Write down the word that comes before and after it. 25 10: Definitions Use a dictionary to find the definition of each of your spelling words. 25 11: Syllables Write your spelling words and divide them by syllables. Next to each word, write at least two more words with at least 3 letters that can be spelled using the letters in your spelling word. 18: Concentration Write your spelling words on note cards. Make two sets. Then, play a game of “Concentration” with a sibling, parent, grandparent, or friend. Have an adult sign and date a piece of notebook paper saying you played.

19: Secret Code Using the code below, write your spelling words in secret code. Challenge a sibling, parent, grandparent, or friend to decode each word. Correct their work. 21: Tongue Twisters Write a tongue twister for at least 8 of your spelling words. All words start with the same letter in a tongue twister. Underline the spelling word. Example: Pink pigs play the piano.

23: Spelling Fractions Write your spelling words as fractions based on the number of vowels and consonants in each. Use three columns.Example:

In the example above, the word sweet has 5 letters. Two of those letters, or 2/5 of the letters, are vowels. Three of those letters, or 3/5 of those letters, are consonants.
