THE ROMAN CATHOLIC PARISH OF 30th October & 6th November 2016 - 31st & 3nd Sunday of Ordinary Time - Issue 1147 1946- 2016 7 YEARS BUILDING A STRONG WORSHIPING COMMUNITY ST JOHN BOSCO PARISH CELEBRATING 0 PRAY FOR ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED St. Paul says that, just as Jesus died and rose again, so through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep; and as in Adam all die, so also in Christ will all be brought to life. Every year the Church sets November aside as a special month when we focus on and pray for all the faithful departed, those who have died and await final purification before entry into heaven. As a tender mother, she does this, "not simply to com- mend the dead to God but also to raise high the hope of its children and to give witness to its own faith in the future resurrec- tion of the baptized with Christ." Think of the over 900 who recently perished in Haiti following hurricane Matthew; those who died in Cameroon following the train derailment last week, and those dying daily in Syria and Iraq because of war. In the power of the Lord Jesus, the church intercedes for the deceased because she believes that death is not the end nor does it break the bonds we forged in this life. Prayers and Masses can bring them pardon. So many people die at war, by accidents at sea, in far away forests and do not even have a funeral. The Church zooms a spotlight on Purgatory, on those who have died loving God; imperfect, and await final purification. They need our prayers and Masses. On 2nd November, all devout Catholics try to attend Mass, as well as visit and pray in the cemetery during the month. Priests are encouraged to celebrate up to three Masses that day! The brick wall around our Baptismal font gives us an opportunity to write the names of our departed loved ones so that the whole church may pray for them. It is the duty of the believing community to console mourners with words of faith and support and with acts of kindness. The biggest way of support and consolation is by prayer. This November, let us daily pray for all the faithful departed. Requiescant in pace (May they rest in peace). Emergency numbers for the Sacramental Ministry of a priest: Fr Bon 969 3423 Fr. PRAY FOR ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED St. Paul says that, just as Jesus died and rose again,

Every year the Church sets November aside as a special month when we focus on and pray for all the faithful departed, those who have died and await final purification before entry into heaven. HEALTH & SAFETY/FIRE ALARMS

Now that we have a fire detection system in the church we are requested, by law, to carry out fire alarm drills. We will be doing this during unannounced week-end Masses. If you hear the alarm at any time please leave the church immediately and proceed to the fire assembly point in the school car park. PLEASE BE REMINDED that scooters should not be parked in the toilet corridors, please use the cycle racks outside the church. Please also be reminded that push-chairs should not be placed in a way that they block the walkways in the church.

Thank you for your co-operation

Please keep in your prayers John Hiscox (Mary Hiscox’s son) who sadly died this week.

OCTOBER DEVOTION

Thank you to all those who joined in the Rosary Prayer in the month of October

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP For a few months representatives from each parish in the Reading Pastoral Area have been meeting with a view to setting up Bereavement Support Groups in each parish to work alongside the Parish Priest. The time surrounding a death is one of the most painful and stressful times in a person’s/family’s life. The support of the Parish community at this time can provide practical help and emotional support and prayer. A parish group would be involved in funeral preparation, home visiting and assisting with the annual memorial service. The team would consist of volunteers who have good listening skills, who can provide face to face support, as well as those with administrative and computer skills who can keep records, help with printing etc. It would be good to include also people from other cultures and with different language skills. The com-mitment would also involve a monthly meeting for prayer, ad-ministration and support. Training will be provided. DBS clear-ance and safeguarding training would be necessary.

ADVENT SERVICE OF RECONCILIATION

Monday, 12th December, 7.30pm . Please come and pray for your and the whole world’s healing as we close this Year of Mercy and pre-pare for Christmas.
