What could be better than Mardi Gras in New Orleans? Perhaps only the excitement of a Rotary Interna-tional convention, which will take place in the Crescent City from May 19 to 25. The event will feature Mississippi steamboat rides, the legendary French Quarter, Cajun and Creole cuisine, and live jazz – all the fun of Mardi Gras with a Rotary flair. De-tails are at rotary.org.

German Perspective

Lt. Col. Michael Trautermann, a Ger-man Air Force officer assigned to the Pentagon, shared his perspectives on life in America at our Feb. 3 meeting. Flight training in California showed him some differences in the West Coast lifestyle. “People on the East Coast have actually heard of Europe,” he noted with a smile. Life in this region also seems faster paced, he said, although he has found Americans polite and friendly.
