The Captain’s briefing held by Shri V R Ananthram and Shri V Vijayaraghavan today at the MRPL Guest House at Mangalore promise as exciting 5 days of Chess. 13 Teams have registered and will face off against each other in the 6 round Team event from 30th March to 1st April. The star studded BPCL – A team comprising India No.2 GM P Harikrishna, GM Parimarjan Negi, GM M R Venkatesh, GM Abhijeet Gupta and GM GN Gopal and another all GMs team ONGC – A consisting, India’s top most woman player Koneru Humpy, Sasikiran, Vidit Santosh Gujrati, SP Sethuraman & Deepsen Gupta are the joint favourites. The strength of IOCL– A team , former World U16 champion GM B Adhiban, former Commonwealth Champion GM M R Lalith Babu, 6 times consecutive national champion GM S S Ganguly, former national champion GM Abhijit Kunte and IM Diptayan Ghosh also cannot be underestimated. Shri V R Anantharam, Chief Arbiter is Asst Secretary, Qualification Commission of the World Chess Federation. He is part of the Team that assesses and grants titles like “grandmaster” to chess players over the world.

The individual event to be held from 1st to 3rd April will be a 7 round rapid

format tournament. Harikrishna with a rating of 2714 is the highest seeded

player, followed by K Sasikiran (2676).

The board order for each round has to be submitted at least 60 minutes before

the start of each round, except second round (30 minutes).

A higher board player can not play on lower boards

A reserve player can play only on fourth board

Penalty for wrong board order – 1 point to be deducted for each change

o The best 2 scorers of each board will be given prizes, based on percentage

o If percentage is equal, more number of games played counts
