We welcome you this morning to Trinity Church, Capitol Square. If you are visiting for

the first time, or are looking for a church home, please fill out a pew card and give it to an usher or put it in the offering plate. The clergy and members of the congregation look forward to greeting you following the liturgy.

The Forth Sunday in Lent March 18, 2012

8:00 A.M. & 10:30 A.M. Holy Eucharist: Rite II

The Word of God Opening Hymn 594 Cwm Rhondda

A Penitential Order: Rite Two Presider Bless the Lord who forgives all our sins. People God’s mercy endures for ever. Presider Since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14,16

Presider Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Presider and People

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Presider Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. Hymn S-96 Kyrie Eleison Schubert/Proulx

The Collect of the Day Presider The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Presider Let us pray. Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The Lessons A Reading from the Book of Numbers (21:4-9) (see scripture insert)

After each reading: Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. Psalm 107:1-3, 17-22 Refrain sung by all A Reading from Letter to the Ephesians (2:1-10) Sequence Hymn 7 Ratisbon

Gopeler The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ According to John (3:14-21) People Glory to you, Lord Christ. After the Gospel Gospeler The Gospel of the Lord People Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sermon The Rector Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Prayers of the People

The People may add their own petitions either silently or aloud. The Presider adds a concluding Collect.

The Peace Presider The peace of the Lord be always with you. People And also with you.

The Holy Communion

All who hunger are welcomed at Christ’s Holy Table.

Page 5: 4 Lent 3/18/12 Trinity Episcopal Church

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. You bid your faithful people cleanse their hearts, and prepare with joy for the Paschal feast; that, fervent in prayer and in works of mercy, and renewed by your Word and Sacraments, they may come to the fullness of grace which you have prepared for those who love you. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: Hymn S-130 Sanctus Schubert/Proulx

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

The people remain standing. Presider Holy and gracious Father… Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Presider and People

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

The Presider continues: We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father… As our Savior Christ has taught us, we now pray,

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread Presider Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. People Therefore let us keep the feast.

BREAD Trinity House Meeting TODAY

The BREAD Organization is actively researching issues surrounding the development of jobs and a sustained, equitable economy in Columbus today. Do Good. Think Chocolate! Make chocolate part of your holy Lent by entering ECSF’s April 21 Chocolate Fest bake-off, donating an auction item, or ordering tickets at www.ECSFsouthernohio.org The proceeds power ECSF grants for community ministry across the diocese. Each dollar raised equips a pantry to provide four meals worth of groceries, so every bite you bake is a blessing for neighbors in need. This year beautiful Trinity, Newark is hosting the Fest, with Former Congresswoman Jean Ashbrook and Viann Yankulov of Goumas Candyland as celebrity judges! Because the auction includes ten days of online bidding through Bidding for Good, we welcome items from any part of the diocese, especially retail and restaurant gift cards and tickets to sports or performing arts. Contact ECSF’s Ariel Miller at 513-221-0547 or [email protected] with questions or suggestions on auction items. Thanks!
