But the furry fellow will be better known soon enough – at least among the less upstanding members of the com- munity – when he takes to the streets with his partner in the Edmonds Police Department. Thanks to the efforts of the Edmonds Police Foundation, Hobbs is the newest member of the police department’s K9 unit. The foundation turned over a check for $9,231 this week to purchase Hobbs, a C oming off a record year in capital im- provement projects, Edmonds’ Public Works Department is proposing a project list that would more than double the 2013 total. That information was among the high- lights Tuesday as the administration presented to the City Council the second of a two-part discussion on its proposed 2014 budget. The city will hold a public hearing next week, on Nov. 4, followed by possible bud- get adoption on Nov. 19. Public Works Director Phil Williams said Tuesday that the city is on track to spend about $9.5 million in capital proj- ects by the end of 2013, a record. However, he said if they were to follow through on council approved projects in 2014, costs would more than double to about $19.5 million, followed by another big year in 2015 with about $17.4 million in projects. Because of the expected workload, his department’s budget request includes the addition of another engineer to help with design and planning. Labeling the 2014 project list “robust,” Williams named about a dozen that would be started and/or completed.
