EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP

May 5, 2019

3rd Sunday of Easter

I am struck by how Jesus addresses the disciples in the 21st

chapter of John. They have been fishing all night, and when the dawn comes, Jesus asks, "Children, have you caught anything to eat?" They hadn't caught a thing, so he tells them what to do to

finally fill their nets. These children thought they knew best, but they couldn't get the job done until they listened to Jesus. Like a

child who needs a parent, these early followers of Jesus were learning that real maturity of faith requires trusting in and

listening to the Teacher.

The stewardship way of life demands of us a certain maturity of

discipleship. Just as a child is not yet ready to be a parent, an immature disciple may not yet be ready to sacrifice regardless

of the cost or understand the true value of his generosity. So every day, we are challenged and called to respond, sometimes

even with little cost to ourselves. But each step, no matter how small, brings with it growth. We are growing not only in

maturity, but in the ability to trust in God and how to listen for

the call as well.

How mature are you in your faith? How much trust do you have in Jesus Christ? How often do you pause to listen to the

instructions of your Teacher? The night is now over, and the dawn is upon you. Reflect on the visible fruit of your

stewardship, and then listen for the words of Jesus.

A note to each of our secret pals for the next year. Remember to pray for your secret pal and send an encouraging note, birthday card, or I'm "thinking of you" card every once-in-awhile. Don't just wait for a birthday or anniversary. Look for ways to do something really nice for your pal. Remember we have a Secret Pal mail basket at church so just drop your card or gift in the basket on the counter in the entrance of church.

PRAYER FOR TEACHERS

Christ our Teacher, you conveyed your message through

parables and proclamations, through mighty deeds and miracles, through silence, sacrifice, and love. On this National Teacher Day,

may all educators be inspired by your example of patient invitation to truth. Grant them the grace to lead by example,

to teach with wisdom and authority, and to treat every child with dignity. May they be strengthened to continue in this necessary work

Lectio Divinia

May 5 2019 John 21:1-19 or 21:1-14

At the time, Jesus revealed himself again to his disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. He revealed himself in this way. Together were Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, Zebedee’s sons, and two others of his disciples. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We

also will come with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. When it was already

dawn, Jesus was standing on the shore; but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, “Children, have you caught anything to eat?” They answered him, “No.” So he said

to them, “Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something.” So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in because of the number of fish. So the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” When Simon Peter heard

that it was the Lord, he tucked in his garment, for he was lightly clad, and jumped into the sea. The other disciples came in the boat, for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards, dragged the net ashore full of one hundred fifty-three large fish. Even though there were so many, the net was not

torn, Jesus said to them, “Come, have breakfast.” And none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” because they

realized it was the Lord. Jesus came over and took the bread and gave it to them, and in like manner the fish. This was now the third time Jesus was revealed to his disciples after being raised

from the dead.

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” Simon

Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He then said to Simon Peter a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love

you.” Jesus said to him, “Tend my sheep.” Jesus said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was

distressed that Jesus had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.

Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow

old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And

when he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”

Please call the parish office if you have a mass intention. There are many dates still available. Thank you.

Please pray for the following young students who will receive their First Holy Communion on May 5th. Holy Family-St. Williams: Phoenix Horacek and Saphira Soper St. Mary: Lexus Pelkey, Taylor Rasmussen and Mikayla Spaulding

rose. All proceeds go to Wisconsin Right to Life to fund advertisement awareness and programs that defind and

protect human life in all its stages.
