VOCATION Roman Catholics in the United States spend a good deal of time speaking of “vocation” and the manner in which each of us discerns our vocation for life. In today’s apostolic letter, however, Peter gives us the “cornerstone” of our vocation, the description of what each of us is called to first and foremost by our baptism. He describes our voca-tion as “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of [God’s] own, so that you may announce the prais-es” of Christ, who called us out of darkness into light (1 Peter

2:9). All of us, no matter what path our life’s vocation may take us down, have been chosen by God, made holy, and anointed as priests in the high priesthood of Christ through baptism. All of this, so that we may announce the praises of Christ. Vocation is given for proclamation at home, in the workplace—wherever life takes us—in service, in word, and in sacrament.

VOCACIÓN Los católicos en los Estados Unidos pasan mucho tiempo hablando de “vocación” y la manera en que cada uno de nosotros discierne nuestra vocación en la vida. Sin embargo, en la carta apostólica de hoy, Pedro nos da la “piedra angular” de nuestra vocación, lo primero y principal en el

llamado de cada uno de nosotros a raíz de nuestro Bautismo. Él describe nuestra vocación como “estirpe elegida, sacerdocio real, nación consagrada a Dios, pueblo de su propiedad para que proclamen las obras maravillosas de aquél [Cristo] quien nos llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable” (1 Pedro 2:9). Todos nosotros, sin importar la senda por la cual nuestra vocación de vida nos lleve, hemos sido elegidos por Dios, hechos santos, y ungidos como sacerdotes en el alto sacerdocio de Cristo por nuestro Bautismo. Todo esto, para que podamos anunciar las maravillas de Cristo. Se nos da una vocación para que proclame-mos mediante el servicio, la palabra y el sacramento dentro del hogar, en el trabajo y dondequiera que nos lleve la vida.

A lo largo de la temporada de Pascua, escuchamos la historia de las primeras comunidades cristianas en las lecturas de los Hechos de los Apóstoles. Escuchamos cómo las personas lidiaron con lo que significaba depositar su fe y confianza en el Señor, entendiendo que hacerlo los llamó a vivir de manera diferente, a seguir el camino del amor de Jesús. Esto es más que una lección de historia para nosotros. A medida que escuchamos cómo las personas se sintieron atraídas por Cristo y aprendieron a seguirlo, estamos invitados a preguntarnos qué tan plena-mente estamos tomando en serio el Evangelio. ¿Es Jesús nues-tro camino, verdad y vida? ¿Anuncian nuestras acciones dia-rias las alabanzas del Señor?

CAMBIO DE MENTE Y CORAZÓN A PARTIR DE HOY Durante la Cuaresma participamos en ritos penitenciales, la oración, el ayuno y las obras de caridad para que nuestras vidas se dirijan completamente hacia el Señor. Sin embargo, el fruto de nuestras prácticas cuaresmales no termina el Viernes Santo o el Domingo de Pascua. La Cuaresma es nuestro tiem-po anual para incluir una renovación espiritual, con la inten-ción de que perdure. El cambio de mente y corazón que inclui-mos en las semanas anteriores a la Pascua deben ser nuestro fundamento espiritual, formando nuestras vidas ahora y en el futuro. Haz una pausa por un momento y preguntante que diferencia tuvo la Cuaresma para ti este año. Si puedes indicar algún cambio específico de mente, corazón, comportamiento, prométete que continuaras viviendo en este nuevo cambio en los próximos meses y años. Si la Cuaresma no tuvo un impacto en particular en tu vida este año, ahora es el tiempo de que invites al Señor a que te muestre el camino hacia una vida más significativa y llena de fe en tu futuro.

NO TENGAS MIEDO, HAZ EL TRABAJO DE CRISTO En el pasaje del Evangelio que escuchamos hoy, Jesús iba pre-parando a los apóstoles para un tiempo cuando él no estuvie-ra físicamente con ellos. Jesús quiso animar a los apóstoles, aun cuando él sabía que ellos estaban teniendo dificultad para entender. Algunas veces nosotros también tenemos dificultad para entender el camino del Señor. Sabemos que Dios está con nosotros en Cristo por medio del Espíritu Santo, y cuando tenemos que comportarnos de acuerdo con nuestra fe, algu-nas veces fallamos. Jesús nos dice que no tengamos miedo. Ten fe en Cristo y en sus obras. Podríamos sorprendernos en lo que podemos hacer cuando confiamos y seguimos el ca-mino de Jesús. Se nos asegura que Dios estará con nosotros a lo largo de ese camino.

Throughout the Easter season, we hear the story of the earliest Christian communities in readings from the Acts of the Apostles. We hear how the people grappled with what it meant to place their faith and trust in the Lord, understanding that doing so called them to live differently—to follow Jesus’ way of love. This is more than a history lesson for us. As we hear how the people were drawn to Christ and learned to follow Jesus, we are invited to ask ourselves how fully we are taking the gospel to heart. Is Jesus our way, truth, and life? Do our daily actions announce the praises of the Lord?

CHANGE OF MIND AND HEART FROM NOW ON During Lent, we participated in penitential practices and fo-cused on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in order to turn our lives more fully to the Lord. However, the fruit of our Lenten practices is not supposed to end on Good Friday or Easter Sunday. Lent is our annual time to embrace spiritual renewal, which is intended to last. The change of mind and heart that we embraced in the weeks preceding Easter are to be our spiritual foundation, shaping our lives now and into the future. Pause for a moment and ask yourself what difference Lent made for you this year. If you can point to some particular change of mind, heart, or behavior, promise yourself that you will continue to live in this new way in the months and years to come. If Lent did not have a special impact on your life this year, now is the time to invite the Lord to show you the way to more meaningful and faith-filled living in the future.

DON’T BE AFRAID. DO THE WORKS OF CHRIST In the Gospel passage we heard today, Jesus was preparing the apostles for a time when he would not be with them phys-ically. Jesus wanted to reassure the apostles, even though he knew they were having a difficult time understanding. We sometimes struggle to grasp the Lord’s ways, too. We know that God is with us in Christ through the Holy Spirit, and yet, when we really have to act in accord with our faith, we some-times falter. Jesus tells us to not be afraid. Have faith in Christ and do his works. We may be surprised at what we are able to do when we trust and follow Jesus’ way. And we are assured that God will be with us through it all.

For your convenience, the Parish has setup the ability for you to donate online or by text. You will be able make a one-time donation or setup a recurring donation.

TO SETUP ON-LINE GIVING Go to: https://bit.ly/slnhgiving ⚫ Scroll to the bottom of the page ⚫ Choose either the General or Maintenance Fund ⚫ Enter your gift amount ⚫ Choose either One Time Donation or Recurring Donation ⚫ Fill out the form for either credit card or bank account ⚫ Click the Submit Button

HOW TO USE TEXT GIVING You may find that the easiest way to give is by text.

• Text the word GIVE to 60SAINTLAW (607-246-8529)

• If it’s your first time, you’ll be prompted to click a link directing you to the online giving page to complete a one-time registration. ⚫ Click “SIGN IN” then “REGISTER FOR AN ACCOUNT” at the bottom of the page. ⚫ Complete contact information then click “REGISTER” ⚫ Enter the SECURE PIN that the system texts you. ⚫ Select the fund, enter the donation amount, and payment information before completing your gift. ⚫ Click SAVE PAYMENT to keep your payment information securely saved for future gifts.

TO TEXT A DONATION AFTER THE ONE-TIME REGISTRATION, YOU CAN GIVE IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT HAVING TO RE-ENTER ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION: Simply text the desired AMOUNT and the FUND KEYWORD to the 60SAINTLAW (607-246-8529) Example: Text: 5 maintenance – for $5.00 to the maintenance fund Or text: 5 general – for $5.00 to the general fund

OTHER TEXT COMMANDS EDIT – Make changes to your giving account and update contact information and/or update payment information.

REFUND – Refund your last gift. You must text “REFUND” within 15 minutes to refund the gift. If you realized the mistake after 15 minutes, contact the church or organization you are giving to for a refund.

KEYWORD – See a list of active keywords. Keywords are the fund names that the church/organization has set up.

OTROS COMANDOS DE TEXTO

EDIT (Editar) – Realizar cambios en su cuenta de entrega y actualice la información de contacto y/o actualice la información de pago.

REFUND (Reembolso) – Reembolsar tu última donación. Debe enviar un mensaje de texto REUND" (Reembolso) en un plazo de 15 minutos para reembolsar la donación. Si se dio cuenta del error después de 15 minutos, póngase en contacto con la iglesia u organización a la que está dando la donación para obtener un reembolso.
