Adult and Youth Faith Formation Registration Open
The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program is now accepting registration for 2019-20. Those 16 years of age or older who would like to become Catholic (having never been bap-tized) or who would like to complete the Sacraments of Initiation (having been baptized into a Christian faith, but not received Communion and/or been confirmed) are invited to call the Pasto-ral Center offices at 650-588-1455 and leave their contact information. A member of the RCIA team will follow up with details about the program, which begins in September. Registration
forms are available in the Pastoral Center.
New and continuing registration is being accepted for the 2019-20 Faith Formation program. Registration forms are on the parish website under the “Faith Formation” tab, or may be re-quested by calling the Faith Formation office at 650-588-1455 ext. 305. Even if your child will be a returning student, a 2019-20 registration form is required. Forms are also available in Spanish at the parish office.
Please register your child/children as soon as possible as class sizes are limited. Classes begin in September.
A reminder that preparation for the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation are each two-year pro-grams, beginning no earlier than 1st grade for Communion and no earlier than 8th grade for Confirmation.
Special Needs Faith Formation Program: “Let the little children come to me; do not hinder them, for such is the kingdom of God.” - Mark 10:14. Implicit in Jesus’ words is his welcome to all children. We are all children of God; God welcomes us all.
Every child may receive the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. At St. Veronica, we are blessed to offer classes for students with special needs. The children usually begin preparation
for Holy Eucharist at age 6 or 7, but there is no upper age limit. Confirmation preparation usually begins around age 12. Preparation for each sacrament is two years.
If you have a child with special needs who has not received his or her sacraments, please contact the Parish Office. And please pass along our information to others who may be interested in the program!
Classes begin in late September on Saturdays from 10:30-11:45 a.m. We would love to work with your child on his or her faith journey!
St. Veronica is a FORMED Parish - Catholic Content at Your Fingertips!
Thanks to a grant offered by the Archdiocese of San Francisco, St. Veronica has access to the website FORMED, which has been called “Netflix for Catholics”. The Archdiocese is subsidizing parishes at a rate of three years for the price of one. Registration is quick and easy. Visit www.stveronicassf.formed.org, click “Register”, and you will have access to thousands of videos (including full-length movies and children’s content), e-books, audio content, podcasts, and study guides. Content is available in English and Spanish. There is suitable content for all age ranges, and for wherever you are in your faith journey. Not sure where to start? After registering, scroll down the home page and check out the numerous content suggestions. Remember to also click on the “left” and “right” arrows for more suggestions! There’s even a special section called “For your Summer Road Trip”. Looking for even more? There’s an app for that! Search for “FORMED” where you download your apps!

Planning on Holding your Wedding at St. Veronica Church?
The policy of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco states that arrangements for marriage are to be made at least six months in advance. These months are meant to give couples the opportunity for prayerful re-flection on Christian marriage and for consideration of their future life as “two who will be made one.”
Your first step is to call our rectory office at 650-588-1455 to schedule an appointment to meet with a member of the clergy.
During the initial meeting, preliminary information will be taken and an evaluation of your readiness to marry will be assessed. Other information will be provided re-garding the Marriage Preparation Program and FOCCUS questionnaire.
You will also have the opportunity to set up future meet-ings with clergy, our wedding coordinator and our music director who will all work with you in planning your spe-cial day.
Calendars fill up quickly and schedules get busy, so don't delay in setting up your initial wedding appointment.
It is with great joy that we welcome into our church and community the following child who received the

Become a Good Samaritan for your neighbor in need . . . Just like the Samaritan in today’s Gospel, we all have a calling to help others. Here are just a couple of ways:
Our Homebound Eucharistic Ministry is looking for additional volunteers to help distribute Communion and bring the Gospel to local shut-ins on Sundays. Open to those who are already Eucharistic Ministers.
Our St. Vincent de Paul Ministry can always use a hand. Donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries may be dropped off at the Parish Office during regular busi-ness hours. For those who have just a few hours a month to spare, SVdP can also use help with bringing bags of groceries to those in our local community.
Those interested in participating in either of these minis-tries are welcome to contact the Parish Office at 650-588-1455 for additional information and to be put in touch with the coordinators.
Baptism Information
Registration forms are available from the Pastoral Center during regular office hours,
or you may download a form from our website at www.stveronicassf.com.
Baptisms are generally celebrated monthly on the 1st and 3rd Saturday in English. Please call the Parish Office to sign up.
Upcoming baptism dates are as follows: July 20 (full)
August 3 & 17 (full) September 7 & 21
Preparation classes for parents and godparents are held on the second Tuesday of the month.
Classes are conducted in the Pastoral Center from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. (Adults only please).
Please call the Parish Office at 650-588-1455 for specific dates and to reserve your space for the
Baptismal Preparation Classes.
Reflecting on the Word
Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Moses tells the people that God’s command is already in their mouths and hearts. The way Jesus treats the scholar reflects this. He asks how he reads the law. The scholar knew what to do. Then Jesus ups the ante with his response to the question, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus makes clear that the Samari-tan, who treated the person with mercy, was the neighbor. The enemy was the neighbor. Why did the scholar ask the question? We don’t know. We do know that Jesus asks him to stretch his definition of neighbor and see as God does. Even one’s enemy is neighbor, for we are all children of God. Some-one from the towns who refused Jesus hospitality models a faithful response. A retired Marine once told me he was trained never to think of an enemy as a person. Only by putting someone in a category - enemy, opponent, evil, or threat - can we consider dismissing and mis-treating other people. When we see the other as hu-man and like us, mistreatment becomes more diffi-cult. That’s why it is difficult to eat or pray with someone who has hurt us. The tension becomes too much, so we leave or try to reconcile. Our hearts know that we are more alike than unlike. Christ came to reconcile all things in himself, making peace by the blood of his cross. He em-braced what was death-dealing and found life. Sign-ing ourselves with the cross reminds us that God’s way, difficult as it can be, is as near as our mouths and hearts. That act invites us to see all people as human, as neighbor. Show others the mercy that God has given us and love both God and neighbor.
For Prayerful Consideration & Discussion
How would I answer the question, “Who is my neighbor?”
What keeps me from seeing someone who has hurt me or done evil as a human being and a child of God?
Living and Praying with the Word
God, our mercy, your compassion toward us is pure gift. Help me see others as you do to find ways of healing where there is brokenness and reconcilia-tion where there is rupture. Help me to take the small but steady steps that the death and resurrection of Jesus invite. - Living the Word
