HHHHHHCCC 111111777TTTHHH NNNEEEWWWSSS Chaplain Found and his assistant, SPC Zeigler focused their efforts during

mobilization training and the left seat / right seat with the 1297th to develop our Unit Ministry Team (UMT) that would support the Battalion. Through the first month and a half on ground, the Chaplain and SPC Zeigler have been able to create a resiliency center for the Soldiers to relax, conducted all CLP Prayers as well as bless every convoy. The Chaplain will start a weekly resiliency run kicking off on 27 June. He has also conducted over 30 counseling sessions, taught classes and conducted numerous resiliency training sessions with individual Soldiers.

The Unit Ministry Team is an integral part in the mission’s success. Their focus isn’t just on the faith of a Soldier but also the resiliency of the force. The Chaplain’s ability to step out and increase awareness of resiliency across the Task Force Trenton Formation is important in sustaining the force. In his eyes, a resilient force will breed a strong team that ultimately will affect the mission in a positive way.

Chaplain Found

HHC COMPANY COMMANDER’S CORNER It has been over two months now and the time is flying. The Soldiers have been exceptional and the teamwork amongst the unit can’t be put into words. I am proud of the unit and all of the Soldiers and their ability to adapt and succeed in this environment. The summer is upon us here and it is HOT!!!! Our Soldiers are trained to combat the heat and understand the importance on managing their hydration. Oh, with the heat comes football season!!!! Go Eagles!!!!

777888111SSSTTT TTTCCC NNNEEEWWWSSS SSG Adam Barr joined the Alabama National Guard in 1999. He began his military career as a PFC with the 2/117th FA which is located in Luverne, Alabama. In 2002 he became Active Guard Reserve at the Joint Force Headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama as a 42A. In 2005, he was transferred to the 1670th Transportation Company located in Troy Alabama, where he was promoted to SSG. In 2011 he was cross-leveled to the 781st Transportation Company for deployment to Kandahar Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom where he has been doing an excellent job as a squad leader in 2nd Platoon. He is married to Leigh Barr and they have 3 children: Zachery, Anna Cate and Isabelle. SSG Barr serves as a Convoy Commander and is doing an outstanding job. He was described by BN Staff “Rock Solid NCO”. He has proved to be truly a positive asset to the 781st TC. He is commended for his professionalism, bravery, and dedication.

781ST TRANSPORTATION COMPANY COMMANDER’S CORNER The 781st continues to improve its mission capabilities with the leadership of great convoy commanders. SSG Barr took the lead on training or helping train all of them. He sets an example for subordinate troops and continues to set the standard for NCO’s taking on a role of Convoy Commander.

515th TC COMPANY COMMANDER CORNER During the month of May and June the company has been

extremely busy running three missions, the most in the battalion. Although the Soldiers love to be on the road and staying busy, the extra work load has been taking a toll on all of the equipment. Great Job goes out to the Maintenance guys and all of the Soldiers who have been putting in the extra time and effort to keep all of the equipment working. With seven months completed of the deployment, the company is running smoothly and everyone is looking forward to the upcoming months as we start preparing for redeployment. I would like to wish a HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all of the Fathers in the unit. CPT MARGARET MARCELLO

111444888666TTTHHH TTTCCC NNNEEEWWWSSS The 1486th Transportation Company has been going strong and is heading into the month of July with new challenge on hand, that of course being the weather. Historically, Kandahar, Afghanistan has had temperatures reaching beyond the 100 degree level and only cooling down to the mid 70s at night. The other thing that the heat brings with it is a phenomenon only referred to as “The Winds of 120 Days” and it is just that; this usually occurs between June and September and it has certainly been ramping up in Kandahar brining walls of sand and cyclones of dust that engulf the entire country. This environmental occurrence is both a blessing and a curse for all who experience it. The winds make it difficult to see and sometimes hard to breath, but in the dry heat, the wind helps to alleviate the sweltering sun.

1486th EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S CORNER: The Company has certainly been through a lot so far and have covered more than 95,000 miles in 5 different provinces. The Soldiers have been excelling and learning every step of the way. The 1486th Transportation Company still holds it’s proud name because of each and every Soldier in the Company, ensuring that the Company motto holds true, “The Best Damn Trans in the Land”!!

ALWAYS

FORWARD!

Progress isn’t easy. Obstacles stand in your way.

You get tired of constantly working in the face of

adversity and austerity. Often times your work goes unnoticed or unappreciated.

Sometimes you are recognized, but that is not

why you strive so hard. You work because you are dedicated. You work

because it needs to get done. You lean forward and continue to march toward progress because to stand still is to lose ground. And finally, when you are done

and you lay your head down to rest, you know that you

have left it better than when you received it.

ROADMASTERS LEAD THE

WAY!

222555TTTHHH TTTRRRAAANNNSSSPPPOOORRRTTTAAATTTIIIOOONNN CCCOOOMMMPPPAAANNNYYY If you walk into 25th Transportation Company’s motor pool at 0800 on any

given Tuesday, you will likely find a group of Soldiers being awarded for success and excellence. Recently LTC Orndorff from the Defense Contracting Management Agency stopped by to bestow accolades up on SSG Maui and his crew for outstanding performance while escorting them for a site review. SSG Maui was hand selected to provide security for the team as they ventured outside the wire to review facilities for a contract bid that was valued at over 1 billion dollars. LTC Orndorff praised SSG Maui’s professionalism and tactical prowess, and presented him and his crew with a plaque of appreciation. He took a few moments to explain to the entire formation the importance and relevance of the mission, as well as his admiration for the Roadmaster’s dedication to progress as they continually put themselves in harm’s way.

PFC Allen, Marcus

666000TTT HHH OOODDD DDDEEETTT NNNEEEWWWSSS June 7th, 2012. The 60th OD Detachment (Ft. Carson, CO) arrived on KAF. Their mission: to receive, issue, configure, ship, inspect, demilitarize, manage and retrograde containerized and palletized Class V stocks in order to provide world class ammunition support to NATO and U.S. Armed Forces. Upon arrival, the unit immediately hit the ground running as they prepared to assume responsibility from 395th OD. In the coming months, the “Top Notch” team looks forward to supporting both the 117th CSSB and the 45th SB as they continue to support and sustain the fight.

PFC GINYARD AND SPC BOONE.

60th OD DET COMMANDER’S CORNER 60th has been on KAF for 20 days and they have integrated themselves very well in a short amount of time. We were focused on establishing an effective battle rhythm as early as possible in order to ensure that each soldier could experience their specific MOS properly in an operational environment. We are eager, and equally excited to provide world class support to the war fighter. TOP NOTCH! 1LT ANDREW D. TINGAN

TTTRRREEENNNTTTOOONNN 666 Sustainers, since the 117th CSSB has been on ground for approximately two months now, I felt it my place to give you a quick update on our status. I can honestly state, without hesitation, that we, the 117th CSSB, TF TRENTON, are the most engaged Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in all of Afghanistan and we are the 45th Sustainment Brigade's Main Effort. All in all, we are now in total about 900 Sustainers strong, and we are providing the Maneuver Commanders and Battle Space Owners freedom of action unconstrained by logistics. Our Sustainers are engaged in Tactical Convoy Operations, running the Army's largest Tactical Supply Support Activity(SSA), running the CL I and Humanitarian Assistance Yards, running KAF's ASP, in charge of the largest Motor Pool on KAF, run the National Afghan Trucking in gating process for KAF, have multiple Forward Logistics Elements serving at various out-posts, COBs and FOBs, and will soon be undertaking the Retrograding and off-ramping of several Brigade Combat Teams that are scheduled for departure from theater in the near future. Every Sustainer is performing well above their current pay grade and continues to outperform many of their counterparts. Our formation is strong and getting stronger by the day! All are in good spirits and the comradelier is unmatched by any formation that I have ever witnessed. In fact, all of our unit members have formed various physical fitness groups, in which all are enjoying their new found fitness and it is showing in the increased productivity and physical and mental well being of the Battalion. Our home town partners, such as the Adopt a Soldier Platoon (Alan Krutchkoff) have been sending us loads of creature comfort items and we just received 5 skids of Girl Scout Cookies and Xboxes for our Battalion Resiliency center. We will distribute the cookies on our Distribution runs as well to our supported Combat Brigade partners so they share in or good fortune. We also have been getting plenty of visits from VIPs, such as the one we had from MG Stein, AMC Commander (also a native of Middletown, NJ) who will soon take over as the TSC commander. Before he left, he pulled me aside and told me that he was very impressed by our Sustainers and their dedication to duty and level of professionalism. He also stated that he wants to spend a couple of days in my BN area with me and my Sustainers when he returns in JULY!

TTTRRREEENNNTTTOOONNN 777 “From Trenton 7 Battle Space” Sustainers, another month have passed and for most of you it means a month closer from the journey home. It has not been just another month; it has been full of challenges, accomplishments and unexpected experiences. Bottom line is the team has held together and has overcome all those challenges and experiences and has harvested the bounty of our accomplishments. Our team is stronger than ever, we continue to excel day in and day out; our resiliency and commitment to our Army values is present every day; therefore giving our formations a strong reassurance and confidence in what we are capable to accomplish as a team. My pride of serving alongside the most professional NCO’s that the Army can produce grows on a daily basis, you drive the 117th CSSB mission in a praiseworthy and commendable manner, and you are “The Backbone of the Army”. Our young NCO’s are the Army’s future; with their remarkable performance they are paving the road to what the Army will become. I will always remind you to stay in touch with your loved ones back at home, write a letter, make a phone call, it’s always comforting to hear a familiar voice and learn that they are doing fine. Taking care of the family is also a method of increasing and improving our readiness, resiliency, morale and our ability to fight and win. See you around the Battle Space! TRENTON 7 OUT!!
