No.17. 5th June 2017
Dear Parents,
Please spread the word! Assembly this week will be in the hall on Thursday morning at 8:45am instead of Friday
morning. This change is only for this week as the hall is in use by the 1/2 level on Friday. Speaking of the 1/2 level,
it has been a construction site as they have been busily designing, planning and making all manner of moving
creations! I know that several parents and grandparents are coming along to the culmination of this investigation on
Friday and we are all looking forward to a very exciting day!
The Student Action Team also had a very exciting day last Thursday when they attended the Mt Evelyn School
Leaders’ Youth Forum at Yarra Hills Secondary College. This day was spent with student leaders from five other
schools in the area and the students were challenged to think of ways to break down barriers around stereo types, lack
of resilience and equality in schools. Stay tuned as our Student Action Team will now start to plan a whole school
action project around one aspect of the day that they feel would make a positive change in our school.
The Year 3/4 students thoroughly enjoyed their incursion from Russell the Baker on Friday. Chatting to the students
today it seems that Russell was certainly an entertaining character who not only taught the children about the bread
making process, but made an impression with his many funny stories too! I was impressed that amongst all of the
excitement, the students were still able to link his visit to the fact that as a level they have been learning all about the
Eucharist. It’s terrific to see the students (and teachers), so engaged and excited by their learning.
Congratulations to Harrison A, Mitchell R and Riley L for making their First Reconciliation last Tuesday.
A reminder to those families with a child preparing to receive First Communion
that the Family Night is in the hall tomorrow night at 6pm. This is always a
very special time for families to come together in preparation for First Holy
Communion and we look forward to sharing this next step in their faith journey
with you.

Lord, May I become at all times, both now and forever, A protector for those without protection.
A guide for those who have lost their way. A ship for those with oceans to cross.
A bridge for those with rivers to cross. A sanctuary for those in danger. A lamp for those without light.
A place of refuge for those who lack shelter. And a servant to all in need.
I ask this in Your Name.
Amen

We have children attending our school with severe (life threatening) peanut allergies. As always, we are concerned for the safety of our children, and ask everyone to avoid bringing any items that may contain peanuts to
school, as the smallest amount of peanut or proteins of peanuts on benches, etc., can affect an allergic child. Whilst I can appreciate
that there may be children who just love to have their peanut butter sandwiches or bars, I am sure that if it was your child with the
allergy, you would also appreciate people helping out in this way

ST MARY’S CAR PARK RULES
For the safety of all our children we ask that driver courtesy,
patience and the utmost care is practised at all times.
No standing in the driveway or
roundabout areas unless
‘ALL’ parking spaces are taken.
DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN OUT
OF YOUR CAR ON THE INSIDE
(drivers side)
LANE OF THE ROUNDABOUT
We need access for emergency and delivery vehicles and buses. Blocking the driveway also means that others are unable to access available parking spaces and causes a
dangerous back up of traffic in Clegg Road.
Pick up and drop off on the roundabout only at the designated
place. Please ensure that your child can do up their own seat belt if
you are using this area, as this will ensure an uninterrupted flow.
If we all cooperate the car park does work. We find that generally, the
car park is virtually cleared by 3.30pm. So it may be beneficial to come a
little later, rather than earlier.
The speed limit at St Mary’s is 5km
at all times in the Car Park

Child Safety Code of Conduct
St Mary’s endeavours to create and maintain an environment where child safety is paramount and there is zero tolerance of any form of child abuse.
What is the purpose of a child safety code of conduct? A child safety code of conduct is intended to promote child safety in the school environment. A child safety code of conduct spells out professional boundaries and acceptable and unacceptable adult/child relationships and behaviour.
It should be unambiguous, widely disseminated and supported by supervision, professional development and training. A child safety code of conduct helps schools, staff and volunteers to raise behavioural issues. It provides a reference point for discussion when there may otherwise be confusion, uncertainty, or a lack of confidence about boundaries for appropriate behaviour with children. The code specifies behaviour unacceptable for a professional relationship between a teacher and a student. All parents, relatives and caregivers
attending St Mary’s Primary School to help within the classroom must hold a current Working with Children Check and must have read and signed the Code of Conduct. Please go to our website for more information.
CHILD SAFETY CODE OF CONDUCTS CAN BE COMPLETED AT THE OFFICE
WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK All Parents and Friends visiting St Marys must have a ‘Working with Children Check’. These are
available FREE to volunteers on line.

Sports Report
Football was great on Friday. Xavier B was great in his role of coach and we had an amazing win. The score was St Marys 66 to Rolling Hill 19. Good job footy players! By Samuel R It was a fantastic day for the St Marys Winter sports soccer team. Rolling Hills and St Marys were having a draw. One all for the first half each, but in the second half St Marys scored two more goals. It
was a great day on the field for St Marys. By Zelie Z On Friday the 2nd of June, the One Catch Volleyball team played against Rolling Hills. We played very well and managed to win 1 out of 4 games. There was a lot of good plays and lots of sportsmanship shown. Good job to all the students who played. By Bella P On Friday the netball teams played against Rolling Hills. The 'A' team had a good win with the score of 14-12. Unfortunately, the 'B' team lost with the score being 23-9. In a glimpse, I saw Lachlan S really trying hard in his shooting position, scoring an awesome 4 goals. Good luck everyone for the last game of the season. By Kelsey F
