De Bono was born in Malta in 1933

he gained an honours degree in psychology and physiology.

He has written numerous books with translations into 34 languages

The term 'lateral thinking' was introduced by Edward de Bono

In Singapore 102 secondary schools use his work. In Malaysia the senior science schools have been using his work for ten years.Dr de Bono's message:

thinking can and should be taught if we are to meet the needs of today's fast-paced and changing world.

WHITE HAT-FACTS

WHITE HAT ‐ symbolizes facts. It focuses on the information available and needed.

Question like, “what colors are the flag?” are answered using the White Hat.

YELLOW HAT - GOOD

YELLOW HAT – symbolizes benefits or the goodness. Ittells about what are the values and potentials. it tells the benefits of a suggestion and why it would work.

A question like, “What good will it be if we do this?”

BLACK HAT - CAUTIONS

BLACK HAT – symbolizes negative effects. It examines the difficulties and problems. It highlights weaknesses and cautions well as the risks involved. Question like, “if you play in the house with your ball what might happen?

RED HAT - FEELINGS

RED HAT‐ symbolizes feelings and hunches. Too often we let our emotions make our decisions. Use red hat to state our true feelings and then explore their implications.

Question like, What are my feelings now? What does my intuition tell me?

GREEN HAT - CREATE

GREEN HAT‐ symbolizes imaginative thinking. It encourages the use of creative solutions to problems.

A question like, “Are there other ways we could do this? What else could we do?”

BLUE HAT‐ symbolizes understanding. It manages setting the agenda and deciding on the next step. It wraps up by making the decisions, summarizing on the actions taken.
