We have fine facilities. We have freedom to declare the Gospel. And the fields around us are “white unto harvest.” But sadly the Church in America today is underpowered. We attempt to do too many things in the power of man and too few things in the power of God. Because we are so focused on what is “humanly possible,” our vision is far too limited. Our goals are virtually insulting to God. We endeavor to do only that which we think is within our own power. We forget that ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD (Mark 10:27). I wonder how many of you remember watching the old Star Trek television series. Captain James Kirk was in charge of the Starship Enterprise while Scotty was his loyal engineer who directed things in the engine room. The Enterprise had two major forms of propulsion. The ship could be run on “impulse power” or it could be run on “warp drive.” If the ship was damaged, engineering often had to resort to “impulse power.” This meant the Enterprise could only travel at sub-light speeds. When the warp drive was operational the Enterprise could travel at speeds up to ten times the speed of light. In seasons of revival the Church moves at warp speed. Bold prayers are offered and bold prayers are answered. As God’s people pray, the revived church is empowered by Him to do things beyond our imaginations. Steven Curtis Chapman describes such prayer and great expectations with these words ... The morning finds me here at heaven’s door A place I’ve been so many times before Familiar thoughts and phrases start to flow And carry me to places that I know so well But dare I go where I don’t understand And do I dare remember where I am I stand before the great eternal throne The one that God Himself is seated on And I, I’ve been invited as a son Oh I, I’ve been invited to come and... Believe the unbelievable Receive the inconceivable And see beyond my wildest imagination Lord, I come with great expectations. So wake the hope that slumbers in my soul Stir the fire inside and make it glow I’m trusting in a love that has no end The Savior of this world has called me friend And I, I’ve been invited with the Son Oh I, I’ve been invited to come and... Believe the unbelievable Receive the inconceivable And see beyond my wildest imagination Lord, I come with great expectations. Oh that we might all pray with Great Expectations. Brother Shep Attention all Ladies Thank you for your cooperation in the past in providing a funeral meal for bereaved families in our church. This is a vital ministry for families of our church. Wednesday Mornings: The Wednesday morning prayer and devotional time for middle and high school students has begun. All are welcome. We will be meeting here at FBC beginning this Wednesday (09-03-14). We begin at 7:10 with a good breakfast and end in devotion and prayer. Rides to school can be arranged so come join us! I have spent some time lately searching out our youth leaders and youth pastors in the Coffee county area. It has not been an easy task as there is no exhaustive list to go by and most of the churches in our area are small and scattered throughout the countryside. My mission in this is twofold and I think important and beneficial to the cause of Christ. First, I would simply love to get to know those who are influencing young people. Some are full time and some are part time. Some are volunteer and some just fell in where there was a need. But all of them that I have met love our area teens with a passion. I can get so much encouragement, enthusiasm and ideas from them that it makes the search so worth it for me. And, I too can give to them. I have been approached several times by passionate youth leaders who are volunteers but just have no idea where to start. We can join together for the real goal which is to reach the young for Christ in Coffee County, disciple them and point them in a lifelong direction toward glory. Second, I would like our young people to know that they are not alone outside our church walls and that they do not have to feel that they are a minority. I love that our youth here at FBC are close and have several brothers and sisters to turn to in times of confusion or need. But, how much more of a blessing would it be to know so many more of your brothers and sisters as you walk the halls of your school or attend sporting events or just walk through Wal-Mart? How much more of a blessing would it be for our teenagers to look around when confronted with secular ideas and see the faces of those they have worshiped with and who they know they can count on to stand with them for the things of God. Remember, we are the church. Not just FBC, but those many who, like us, follow the Savior. May God bless you my friends and please take time this week to pray for our young people.
