As part of its continued efforts to adopt green solutions and achieve sustainability in the UAE, du has announced its plan to increase the number of Genset Efficiency CO2 emission-reducing, turnkey energy management systems and monitoring solutions in its mobile base stations.

The announcement was made during GITEX Technology Week 2012 and coincides with du’s support of the upcoming World Energy Forum as a lead sponsor.

Present at the announcement was Farid Faraidooni, Chief Commercial Officer, du and Ayad Abul-Ella, CEO, Heliocentris, accompanied by Jasem

Al Marzouki, Senior Director, Civil and Electromechanical, du, and Michael Kutschenreuter, General Manager Middle East and

With the continued implementation of the green solutions, du expects a saving in fuel consumption of 6.8 million litres and reduction in CO2 emissions

by 17,000 tonnes by end of 2014.“We have selected Heliocentris

for its experience in the field and proven track results. Sustainability is a cornerstone of our business strategy, and we are proud to have achieved reductions of 60% in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from the BTS solutions installed so far. Today we are expanding the number of green solutions in our network to contribute to the UAE leadership’s vision of a green economy,” said Faraidooni.

The Genset Efficiency solution controls the operation of mobile base stations’ diesel generators. An automotive-style hybridization of

the diesel genset, with a battery in combination with intelligent energy management, increases efficiency and considerably reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by at least 50%. In addition, the Energy Manager increases the transparency of operational tasks by monitoring the network infrastructure, and thus decreasing downtime of the towers as well as maintenance efforts.

This project is managed by the Heliocentris branch office (P21), located in Silicon Oasis, Dubai, which was launched at the end of 2011 to cater for the company’s growing operations in the Middle East and Africa.

Cisco unveiled ‘Cisco ONE’ its position on Software Defined Networking (SDN) at GITEX 2012 today. Cisco’s positioning and strategy involves making the network more programmable and virtualised, which requires more than SDN technology. The company’s strategy has three parts: SDN, network virtualisation, and programmability via application programming interfaces (API’s) which are the specifications intended to be used as an interface by software components to communicate with each other.

Cisco believe that despite the current noise in the market, the adoption of SDN technologies

(including OpenFlow) is still small because the technology is still in its infancy. Furthermore, SDN and OpenFlow technologies do not cover all switching functionality – only a small portion of the switch or router’s overall functionality. Cisco has been actively participating in OpenFlow and SDN’s development, collaborating in the leading industry groups and it will continue to support industry efforts to develop SDN technologies and related standards.

Cisco ONE will deliver an open, programmable environment that will continue to deliver on the concept of the network-as-a-platform - in other words, making networks more application-aware,

applications more network-aware, and networks more conducive to developers and application hosting. “Even in the Middle East we are finding that definitions of SDN are

still very fragmented and vendor interpretations are also equally different. The general consensus is that SDN is bigger than OpenFlow, but it is still largely perceived as a controller and agent’s architecture with de-coupling of control and data plane. A lot more can be achieved quickly with programmatic access as many customers just want quicker, multi-layer programmable access. Diverse customers have different motivations when it comes to SDN based on urgency of business drivers, in-house IT expertise, and requirement to customize applications. No one size fits all,” said Rabih Dabboussi, GM of Cisco, UAE.

Bee Ware secures Web apps

Kurmi presents apps for UC platforms

P7@computernewsme

Bee Ware is a software developer specializing in securing and optimizing Web applications. Available in the form of an Appliance, Bee Ware’s solutions guarantee both performance and trust, enabling Web technologies to be used with total security. Bee Ware is present at GITEX to showcase its i-Suite, a dedicated platform for securing Web applications and services.

Made up of selected functional packages, i-Suite can be deployed on one or several i-Boxes (Appliances that support Bee Ware’s products) depending on performance needs and the constraints of existing

architectures. Also available in the form of a virtual machine or as Software as a Service, the i-Suite platform includes various modules.:

The i-Suite solution from Bee Ware provides full-spectrum

protection for Web applications while accelerating the publication process. This non-intrusive solution is adaptable to all environments and simplifies administration thanks to 100%

graphical, wizard-assisted management of configurations and security policies.

The i-Suite solution’s excellent quality/price ratio guarantees reduced delivery times and deployment costs, along with optimum continuity of service. For companies using i-Suite, that continuity translates into savings of time (through optimized application performance), money, and image (by protecting against denial-of-service attacks).

With a view toward developing new partnerships (technological and resellers) internationally, Bee Ware plans to open a Middle East office in late 2012.

Kurmi Software, which provides provisioning and management applications for Unified Communications platforms, has introduced a new range of solutions at Gitex in Dubai.

The convergence of IT and UC is bringing unique business benefits but also introducing a new set of challenges for the CIO. Enterprises and Service Providers tame the complexity and operational risks through technology solutions with a comprehensive set of native connectors interacting with most industry’s hardware and software vendor solutions.

Building upon ten years at the heart of the communication convergence, the French company delivers a new generation of solutions responding to higher demands for operator and enterprise grade streamlined processes. In doing so, Kurmi Software’s

Printed with GIT cartridges

customers are seeing higher levels of productivity from their UC management teams, better control of the otherwise sprawling software and hardware costs as well as a powerful future-proof approach with maximum flexibility.

Kurmi addresses both enterprise market and cloud service providers

with an integrated provisioning platform and user life cycle management solution.

The company claims its Kurmi Unified Provisioning for administrators dramatically reduces administration by enabling the provisioning of staff into UC

environments at the click of a button. The solution leverages advanced user profiling techniques, bringing together multi-vendor environments into one user- intuitive platform and sets access to applications based on job requirements such as voice and telephony, conferencing, messaging, presence, instant messaging and collaboration.

Kurmi Unified Selfcare for end users improves the end-user experience and reduces pressure on the IT department by helping employees self-manage their UC environment. End-users can handle simple tasks such as managing voicemail, configuring call forward, adding a photo or request PIN code and password resets without the active involvement of the help desk. It also provides an advanced browser based ‘Click to Call’ facility.

Kurmi Software is exhibiting at the French pavilion.
