Invitation to PrayerDuring times of crisis, in moments of doubt, during periods of isolation, through seasons of uncertainty, we place our trust in our loving God.

Let us open our hearts to God’s word. In communion with the saints, in solidarity with the suffering, and united with all people of good will, we pray for all whose lives have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:3-8 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefi led, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the fi nal time.

In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fi re, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor as the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Litany: Jesus, the Healer God, Creator of all things...have mercy on us. Jesus, Redeemer of the world...Spirit of life and love... Holy Trinity, one God...

Jesus, Compassionate Healer...heal us, O Lord. Jesus, Companion of the Sick...Jesus, Source of Transformation...Jesus, Hospitality for the stranger...Jesus, Strength for the weary...Jesus, Rest for the exhausted...Jesus, Comfort for the Dying...

Jesus, Courage for the fearful...save us, O Lord. Jesus, Hope for the despairing...Jesus, Shelter in the time of storm...Jesus, Oasis in the desert...Jesus, Light in our darkness...Jesus, Lamp for our feet...Jesus, River of divine mercy...Jesus, Companion through life’s journey...

Christ Jesus, Alpha and Omega...We adore you. Christ Jesus, reigning forever...We praise you.Christ Jesus, Head of the Body...We serve youChrist Jesus, present with us always...We love you.

Concluding PrayerO God, our rock of safety and our shelter in stormy times, listen to our cries and calm our fears.

Help us to persevere through these diffi cult days with renewed faith, with trust in your compassionate care, and with the patience to hold on until a better day dawns.

We pray through Christ our Lord.

Cristo Jesús, Alfa y Omega...Te adoramos.

Praying through the Pandemic / Orar en tiempo de la PandemiaActivities This Weekare suspended per Mandate

of the Archbishop

There will be no public Masses until further notice.

Archbishop Carlson has dispensed all Catholics in the Archdiocese from the obligation of attending Mass on Sundays until further notice.

All group services, Bible studies and activities are still suspended.

For now, the church is to remain open for personal prayer and confessions. Baptisms, weddings, and funerals may continue if immediate family only are in attendance.

Fr. Dotson will be working with families that this may affect regarding these sacraments and rites.

Please remember your offering to the church during this time.

Our "weekend collection" is half of its normal amount, and many of our expenses remain the same.

You can mail your contributions to the Parish Offi ce (601 N. Fourth St., St. Charles, MO 63301) or enroll in online giving through Faith Direct at http://faith.direct/MO903.

Thank you for your support of the parish.

We will continue to keep you updated as the situation changes both by email and through our Facebook Page: facebook.com/Borromeo1791.

The Archdiocese has updates and resources on its website as well: archstl.org/coronavirus.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you and your families during this time.

4 May 9-10, 2020 St. Charles Bor omeo Catholic Church

The readings for the last few Sundays have been about the Resurrection, but

today’s Gospel takes us back in time to an event in Jesus’s life before his Passion.

Jesus tells his disciples that he is going to prepare a place for them in his Father’s house. He promises that where he is going, his disciples will be able to follow. Thomas, who will later doubt the disciples’ reports that they have seen the Risen Lord, contradicts Jesus by saying that the disciples don’t know where Jesus is going or how to get there. Jesus explains that he himself is the way, the truth, and the life. In knowing and loving Jesus, the disciples now love God the Father.

Philip then makes a request that challenges Jesus’s words. Philip wants Jesus to show the Father to the disciples. Recall that Jesus has just told his disciples, “If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” As a good teacher,

Jesus responds to Philip by repeating and elaborating on what he has just told the disciples: they have seen and known Jesus, so they have seen and known the Father.

Then Jesus offers another reassurance about his departure: because of faith in God and in Jesus, the disciples will do the work that Jesus has done and more.

The connection between Jesus and his Father, between Jesus’s work and the work of the Father, is made clear in today’s Gospel. Jesus is in the Father, and God the Father is in Jesus. As God spoke his name to Moses, “I

am,” so too Jesus speaks his name to his disciples: “I am the way and the truth and the life.”

The revelation of the Trinity is completed in the passage that follows today’s reading, and it is the Gospel for next Sunday. Because Jesus goes away, the Father will send in Jesus’s name the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who will continue the work of the Father and of Jesus.
