    Fuel Supply System Features

The uel supply system uses a new Horizontal FuelConditioning Module (HFCM). The HFCM lters uel, separates water, senses water, and recirculates warm

uel through the pump during cool uel conditions.

The 6.4L Power Stroke Diesel also uses 2 uellters and a stand alone uel cooler system.

    Engine Fuel Flow

The uel pump, located in the Horizontal FuelConditioning Module (HFCM), draws uel rom the

uel tank and through a 10 micron uel lter.

The HFCM contains the uel pump, lter, waterseparator, water in uel switch, uel drain, anddiesel thermo recirculation valve (DTRM).

The DTRM controls the fow o uel returned rom the enginemounted lter through the HFCM. I the uel being drawn romthe uel tank is cooler than a speci ed temperature then return

uel rom the engine is recirculated into the inlet o the pump.

A ter the uel is conditioned by the HFCM, the clean pressurizeduel is sent to the engine mounted uel lter assembly where

particles larger than 4 micron are ltered out o the uel.

The engine mounted uel lter assembly also regulates uelpressure by releasing excess pressure via a return uel lineback to the HFCM. The engine mounted uel lter also containsair bleed ori ces to remove air and return it to the tank.

A ter the uel is ltered it is routed to the Internal Trans er

The ITP is located inside the high pressure uel injection pumand is used to increase the uel pressure supplied to the highpressure uel injection pumps three (3) internal pistons.

A ter the uel is pressurized it is routed to the high pressurerails and to the uel injectors via high pressure uel supply t

A Pressure Control Valve (PCV) located in the outlet sideo the high pressure uel injection pump controls the uelpressure by dumping excess uel into the uel return line.

A Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor located in theright side uel rail monitors the uel pressure.

Return uel rom the injectors is routed through a drilled pasrom each cylinder head where it is then united with returnrom the high pressure uel injection pump be ore being sent

to the uel cooler and back to the engine mounted uel lter

HFCM (Horizontal Fuel Conditioning Module) The HFCM is mounted to the rame rail on the drivers side.

The HFCM is a single module that per orms multipletasks. It separates water rom the uel, senseswhen water is present in the uel, lters particulates

rom the uel, and creates the uel fow needed tosupply uel to the engine mounted uel lter.

A DTRM (Diesel Thermo Recirculation Module)is also part o the HFCM. It recirculates uel thatreturns rom the engine mounted uel lter backinto the uel lter instead o back to the tank.

HFCM Fuel Flow Fuel is drawn into the HFCM rom the uel tank via a

    supply line.

Fuel enters the lter housing via a one-way check valve.

Once in the lter housing, water is separated romthe uel. I large amounts o water are ound in the

uel, a sensor in the separator warns the operator othis condition by illuminating a light on the dash.

Fuel is then drawn through the 10 micronuel lter and into the uel pump.

Conditioned pressurized uel is then supplied to the enginemounted uel lter via a uel supply line. The pump hasan internal regulator that limits uel pressure to 24psi.

Fuel returning rom the pressure regulator on the enginemounted uel lter comes into the HFCM and a DTRMeither allows the uel to return to the tank or returns itto the un ltered side o the uel lter in the HFCM. TheDTRM starts to open (recirculating uel back into thepump) at 80F (27C) and is ully open at 50F (10C).

    HFCM Components

The HFCM is composed o six (6) main components:

    - Housing

    - Fuel Filter (10 micron)

    - Fuel Cap

    - Electric Fuel Pump

    - Mani old (contains the uel inlet check valve)

    - Diesel Thermo Recirculation Module (DTRM)is also part o the HFCM. It recirculates uel thatreturns rom the engine mounted uel lter back

into the uel lter instead o back to the tank.

    Engine Mounted Fuel Filter

An engine mounted uel lter is mountedto the intake mani old.

The engine mounted uel lter is a 4micron cartridge style lter.

It also incorporates a uel pressure regulator(in the standpipe) and an air bleed. Fuel rom

the regulator is returned to the HFCM.NOTE: Please exercise extreme cleanlinesswhen servicing the uel flter.

    Fuel Pressure Regulator

The uel pressure regulator is located inside theengine mounted uel lter housing in the standpipe.

It regulates uel pressure by routing un ltereduel rom the lter housing to the HFCM via

a spring loaded poppet style valve.

The cracking pressure (pressure at which the valvebegins to open) o the valve is 2psi +\- 0.5psi. Act

uel pressure may be above or below this speci cat

The regulated pressure o the valve is3psi+/- 0.5psi. Actual uel pressure maybe above or below this speci cation.

NOTE: The uel pressure regulator is NOT serviceable

separate rom the housing! I the regulator needs to bereplaced, then the entire housing must be replaced.

    Fuel Return Banjo Fittings

The uel return lines (located on the ront oeach cylinder head) utilize a banjo bolt to routethe return uel back to the uel system.

NOTE: The 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel utilized a banjobolt with a check valve inside. Do not interchange the 6.0Lbanjo bolt with the 6.4L banjo bolt.

NOTE: The 6.4L Power Stroke Diesel uses an open banjobolt with no check valve. The check valves are no longerneeded since the drilled passages in the cylinder heads arenow utilized as uel return passages.
