Greetings andWelcome to the 66th Annual Convention

It is a pleasure to welcome all of the AMVETS family to the AMVETS Department of Michigan 66th Annual State Convention in Pontiac. This year promises to be interesting with all of the issues facing the department for the coming years, which will be discussed and hopefully resolved during this convention. I encourage all

in attendance to attend all of the business sessions and the general caucus.I would like to thank each one of our subordinate organizations for everything that you have done all year.

Thanks also go out to the few posts that have helped the department throughout this last year.Some good news I would like to share is that our Service Department has been awarded one of the five

available state grants. However, this grant has been awarded for a six-month probationary period during which time we as an organization have to show that we have and will continue to do things the way we are suppose to and not the way that we have done in the past. The organization is in the beginning phase of change. We have not started off well and for that I apologize, but we are striving towards making this department self sufficient with accountability, checks and balances. I am confident that our next commander will carry on with the changes that are required.

I would like to thank all of you for letting me be your commander this past year. It has been a very special year for me. I know that there are a few members that didn’t agree with everything I did but I assure you that any decision made had only the best interest of the organization in mind.

Welcome to the AMVETS Family Annual Convention. I feel very blessed to have had the honor of leading the Auxiliary this past year and working for and with all of you. I look forward to catch-

ing up with old friends and the possibility of making new ones.

I hope that we can continue to work hard to keep the AMVETS family united. I believe that it starts with better communication and remembering our “Code of Ethics”. We should always show our pride in belonging to this great orga-nization.

Congratulations AMVETS, Ladies Auxiliary, Junior AMVETS, Sons of AM-VETS and Riders on the service work you did this past year for our veterans and communities. I wish everyone a very successful convention and thank you to all of the leaders for their year of service to the AMVETS family.

Greetings from the Department of Michigan Sons of AMVETS Commander Douglas Beedon. I would like to welcome everyone to the Annual AMVETS Department of Michigan Convention here in Pontiac. This year

marks the 27th Annual Convention for the Sons of AMVETS. During our travels this past year my officers and I have been busy promoting membership renewals and project reporting.

We have met several old friends as well as making many new friends. Several Starter kits have been sent out to various AMVETS posts and we are hopeful that new Squadrons will be started. If your AMVETS post would like to know how a Sons Squadron can help your post, please feel free to ask me or one of my officers.

I truly hope all of you have a great convention and good luck to those of you who are planning on running for a department office.

It is my pleasure to bring greetings from the Department of Michigan Junior AMVETS to the AMVETS, Auxiliary, Sons of AMVETS and the AMVET Riders - “Welcome”

The Juniors have been very busy this year helping the AMVET Family with service to hospitalized Veterans, Americanism, Child Welfare, Community Service and of course my special project, “Breast Cancer Awareness” through Gilda’s Club. All of our Department projects are funded with our raffle ticket sales. You should have no problem finding us in the hotel to purchase this year’s tickets, and I do hope we have your continued support. Greetings to All:

On behalf of the Department of Michigan Sad Sacks, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Michigan AMVETS State Convention. At the time I am writing this letter, the National Saddest PNC Chuck Taylor had not yet confirmed that he would be here, but we are hopeful. As always, we will have some

of our cohorts from Ohio here to share in the festivities.

It has been my goal as your Saddest to inform you about who we are and what we do. I hope that all of you AMVETS remember one thing. Yes that we are the fun group, but we are also considered the honor group. To be invited to join the Sad Sacks is an honor, so if you are invited, please consider joining us. You have already proven your value to the AMVETS and we would like to recognize your efforts.

I am also happy in tell you we now have sisters in fun and frivolity. The Sackettes, our Auxiliary counterpart now have a unit for the first time in many years here in Michigan Welcome and best wishes to the ladies.

Finally I want to thank all of the Sad Sacks for their continued efforts.
