From the Pastor:

Dear Parish Family,

I am the type of person who appreciates everything we have done, but think that you are most

interested in what is coming next. That is why, in my letters, I usually speak about upcoming

opportunities, but this week I want to share with you some of the memorable moments of this past

weekend and how they reflect the life of the parish. On Friday evening, September 10th, we

celebrated Solemn Evening Prayer in Observance of the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. It was a sacred

moment of remembrance and prayer. It is something that we as Catholics are called to do – and on

Friday evening we did it well here at St. Peter Chanel. A few pictures of the evening are in the

Photo Gallery on the parish website.

We were joined by members from the Fire Station on Jones Rd. who served as a Color Guard and

Chief Conroy from the Roswell PD, also joined us. They were physical reminders of all those first

responders who answered the call on 9/11 and for whom we now pray. Parishioners carried up

placards with the listing of the names of those who died that day. Along with the choir, parishioners,

and members of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus we prayed the Evening Prayer of the

Church for the dead and it was filled with a sense of the sacred. Thank you to everyone who helped

to create a special memory for us all.

On a lighter note, the activities and events for our high school and middle school teens are picking

up. This past Sunday evening our HS Teens participated in the SPC version of a “Color Run”. This

is usually a 5K where at various intervals as you jog along (or walk) you are doused with color dye.

It sounds strange, but from the photos on our website they had a great time. This weekend, at all the

Masses, Colleen Pittroff will be sharing some of the plans for our Middle School teens.

One of our parishioners and a Knight of Columbus, Ryan Rogers, is originally from Lockport, LA.

This area was recently devasted by Hurricane Ida. Ryan’s childhood Catholic Church and

Elementary School, Holy Savior, sustained major damage. Ryan asked if our parish could offer

some support for a “sister” Catholic parish and school. Ryan created a video (on our website –

Parish News) which explains about Holy Savior and its importance to that community and requests

your help. If you would like to help a sister Catholic Church in this time of need, go to our parish

Vanco page and donate.

See you at Mass,

A bi THANK YOU to the wonderful

St. Peter Chanel Community

for making our annual

St. Vincent de Paul Donation Drive a success!

To the organizers, to the volunteers, and to all of you who donated your treasures, we offer heartfelt thanks on behalf of those we serve.

Two trucks were filled once again! The clothing, toys, household items and other donations will be sold in the SVdP Thrift stores. Proceeds from the sales are used to support programs and services that help individuals and families break the cycle of poverty and achieve stability and self-sufficiency. Read more about these programs at the SVdP Georgia website: https://www.svdpgeorgia.org/what-we-do/

If you missed the opportunity, you may always drop off clothing and other small, non-breakable items in the donation bin behind the Church. Look for a big, blue bin with the SVdP Logo, nestled among other bins on the street between our Church and Queen of Angels School. You can slip bags of clothing, shoes, coats, and small household items into the bin for pickup.

May God bless you for your support of our neighbors in need!

Adult Sacraments?

“Our hearts are restless until they rest in You, O Lord” St. Augustine

Are you uncertain about taking steps on a path that leads

to the Sacraments? Wondering what that path might look

like for you? We invite you to a conversation regarding

the RCIA process, where adults grow in their knowledge

and understanding of God and discern the Sacraments.

God calls each one of us to a deeper relationship with

Him, and often times our response to His call is

recognized as a yearning in our hearts, or as St. Augustine

states, a restless heart. God will lead you to the peace and

joy you are seeking. Let us know how we can help!

Bible Study –Lectio: The Case for Jesus –Tuesday Mornings 10 to 11:30Why Jesus? Do you follow Jesus on the way?Can we trust the Gospels? Do we really know who wrote them? Do the Gospels communicate truth – or fabricated fables? Who is Jesus? Who did Jesus claim to be? Join Dr. Brant Pitre as he draws evidence from both early Christian and non-Christian writings attesting to the authenticity, authorship, and dating of the Gospels, and as he gives an in-depth look at the Gospel accounts of Jesus’s Crucifixion, Resurrection, and the proclamation of Christ’s divinity. Dr. Pitre’s powerful presentation will strengthen your faith so that you can not only stand firm and profess that Jesus truly is “the Christ, the Son of the living God,” but also confidently respond to any skeptics you encounter. FAITH FORMATION for FAMILIES

Catholic Car Talk Questions about Sunday’s readings for the ride home.

What makes a person popular or even famous? Why do you think people want to be popular?

Sometimes people are very concerned about being popular among their peers.

Sometimes we compare ourselves to other people or make judgments about others

based on popularity. In today’s Gospel, we learn that Jesus doesn’t want people to compare themselves to

one another. Instead, he says that we should be focused on one thing only. Let’s listen carefully to this

Gospel to learn what Jesus thinks is most important.

What were the disciples arguing about as they journeyed with Jesus? (They were concerned about who was

greatest.) What does Jesus tell them? (serving others makes a person great.) Let’s look back at our list of what

makes a person popular. Was serving others on this list? Why or why not?

Jesus teaches us in today’s Gospel that God does not care how popular we are. There is only one thing that

is important in God’s view of us: Have we served others generously with love?

MINISTRY NEWS In today’s Gospel Jesus called the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” Taking a child, he placed it in their midst, and putting his arms around it, he said to them, “Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.” Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will help hungry children feel the arms of Jesus around them. The annual second collection for the Georgia Council of St. Vincent de Paul is this weekend! This collection is essential for continuing SVdP’s mission to deliver hope and help to people in need. Since its inception in Georgia in 1903, St. Vincent de Paul Georgia has been one of the leading organizations serving families and individuals in need across the state. A large network of volunteers, community partners, and a central support staff allows SVdP Georgia to provide life-changing programs and services including direct aid assistance, Client Choice Food Pantries, and support that helps families find stability and self-sufficiency. Please be generous in your support in helping the poor among us.

Interested parishioners are always welcome to join us at our twice-monthly meetings. Every meeting includes spiritual reflection, prayer, and time to share. In-person meetings have resumed but others will also be able to participate via Zoom. Email [email protected] for information about joining the Zoom meetings. "Second Monday" Monthly Meetings On the second Monday of each month meetings are typically devoted to Friendship and Spiritual Growth as Vincentians. The next "Second Monday" meeting is scheduled for October 11 at 7:00 pm in classroom 6/7 at the Church. "Fourth Monday" Monthly Meetings Our second meeting is held on the fourth Monday of each month and is typically devoted to business and casework. The next "Fourth Monday" meeting is scheduled for September 27 at 7:00 pm in classroom 6/7 at the Church. Faith, Hope and Love . . . Are these present in your marriage? Have you given up hope that they can be? In 1 Corinthians 13:13 Jesus tells us the greatest of these is Love. Living in a marriage that is missing love can be difficult. If you have given up hope that your marriage can and will get better, ask your spouse to consider attending a Retrouvaille program. Retrouvaille is an international Christian-based ministry that offers a three-stage program to help couples improve their marriages. First, a weekend program is attended, followed by post-weekend meetings. Finally, an on-going monthly small group of couples gather for support and growth. If improving your marriage is important to you, reach out today.
