This appeal is distinct from the One Church, Many Disciples capital campaign.

SACRIFICIAL GIVING
What kind of giving is considered sacrificial? It’s the kind that
families do daily when it comes to taking good care of each
other. It often involves some pain or self-denial. It’s not that
different when it comes to our parish family. We take good
care of each other by contributing our fair share to fund the
missionary and operational expenses of the church. We give
not from what is left over, but from all that we have. We give
out of gratitude more than obligation. Have you reviewed your
sacrificial giving recently? Might it be time to do so?

INFLUENZA VIRUS VS. THE CORONA VIRUS
Although influenza and the corona virus have similar symptoms, the risk of catching the flu in the United States remains far greater. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that worldwide, annual influenza epidemics result in about 3-5 million cases of severe illness and about 250,000 to 500,000 deaths. According to the Centers for Disease and Control (CDC), the flu has caused about 14,000 deaths this season in the U.S. alone and about 250,000 hospitalizations. WHO estimates that 49,053 cases of coronal virus have been confirmed with over 48,000 cases being identified in China. Deaths resulting from the corona virus are estimated at 1,383 with just 2 cases occurring outside of China. To date there are 15 confirmed cases of the virus in the United States (does not include numbers evacuated from Diamond Cruise Ship). There are no reported deaths in the U.S.
Like most respiratory viruses, people are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic (the sickest). Person-to-person spread is thought to occur mainly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes, like how the flu and other respiratory illnesses spread. Currently no vaccine is available to prevent coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this disease. CDC recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential travel to the People’s Republic of China (this does not include the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau, or the island of Taiwan). More information see https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html and https://www.who.int/health-topics/coronavirus

YOUTH MINISTRY RENEWAL UNDERWAY
We are in the process of re-imagining and re-structuring of how we “do” youth ministry as St. Andrew’s. To that end Mike Jaques and Lynn Yingling have been asked to serve as Coordinators of Ministry To, By, With, and For Youth and Young Adults. In short order we will also be forming a new Task Force for Youth and Young Adult Ministry comprised of parents and other adults who feel called to this service. It’s being called a task force to make clear that it is not just a committee that sits around talking about problems, but rather considers actions that need to be taken to address those problems. If you are interested in playing a constructive role as part of this body, please contact Mike, Lynn, Tommie, or Fr. Jack.
LIFE NITES
WEDNESDAYS AT 7PM
Our Youth Building is open on most Wednesdays from 7-9pm for High Schoolers and Middle Schoolers. Free food and snacks are available along with games. There are separate gathering areas for older and younger kids. Each week there is an opportunity for prayer in St. Francis Chapel. Practice for Living Stations will be conducted every week and is already underway. This is a great opportunity for our youth to take part in a devotion that inspires the participation of so many parishioners during Lent.
We Also Need Safe Environment Certified
Chaperones (Especially Women) For Life Nites.
____________________________________________
With the deadline for reserving space having passed, it looks like there will be at least 15 youth and seven adult chaperones attending! Contact Mike Jaques, Lynn Yingling, Ann Grover or Tommie Tran for more information.
JULY 10-12 IN SPRINGFIELD, MO
JOURNEY OF FAITH WEDNESDAYS at 6:30 PM
March 4, 11, 18, 25
SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING Sunday, March 1st at 10:30 am
in the McConnell room
Do you have a child attending discipleship formation classes? Do you use the nursery? Do you want to be able to work with the youth of our parish? We are always looking for parents or other volunteers who can help with classes, lead small groups with the youth, chaperone youth events or volunteer in the nursery. Recently, we’ve had to cancel some of our youth nights because of a lack of certified and willing adults. A principal requirement for any of these services is certification through the safe environment program. The training is short and to the point. Hope you can participate. Childcare will be available. Please contact Ann Grover to register or for more information.
Our Sincere Condolences We extend our sincere condolences to Deacon and Mrs. Clyde Grover on the occasion of the death of Ann’s aunt, Jane Fagan. May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
