1981 wrestlIng teAmIowa Central’s 1981 Wrestling Team was the first wrestling team to become a National Championship Team.

The team included five NJCAA All-Americans: Kevin Russell (Clarion) - National Champion @ 126 Mark Ostrander (Fort Dodge St. Edmonds) - Runner-up @ 142 Wayne Cole (Fort Dodge) - Runner-up @ HWT. John Schaumberg (Eagle Grove) - National Champion and 3rd place Curt Pacha (Washington, IA) - 5th place @ 167

The team was coached by Dennis Friederichs, Iowa Central Community College Wrestling Coach (1972-1996)
