Y Dear Parents & Students
To do “ordinary things” well; To see God in “ordinary things”; and To be glad and grateful in both ‘ordinary’ and ‘extraordinary’ mes.
These are graces from God for which we pray.
Let us “DO, SEE, BE” ordinary and extraordinary with grateful hearts, open minds and peaceful disposi ons.
I return to the College this week, having spent three enriching days last week with my “sister” Principals on our annual Loreto Principals’ Retreat. Our facilitator this year was the gracious, wise and magnificent Ms Dunne. As you can well imagine and appreciate, her spiritual guidance was truly special and deeply and profoundly nourishing.
Below is an image I captured whilst on Retreat that speaks to me of the inner and the outer world and of the importance of taking me to explore the beauty within and the beauty without.
“We are to speak freely to God without fear and in freedom.” “We need to be alert to the interplay of the inner and outer world of our encounter – the ever deepening layers of understanding, gained so that we may have something to say.” Carmel Dunne 2011
I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to pray, to listen, to be and to reflect.
Yours sincerely Cheryl Hamilton Principal
“For us it is: to do ordinary things well, to keep our cons tu ons and all other things that be ordinary in every office or employment, whatsoever it be, to do it well. This is for us, and this, by God’s grace, will maintain fervour.
Remember that He be the end of all your ac ons, therein you will find great sa sfac on, and think all things easy and possible.” Mary Ward

Prin ng
A major focus during Semester 1 has been to reduce the amount that the College community (students, staff, administra on) prints every year. There have been a number of ini a ves introduced both to raise awareness of print volumes and to try to reduce the quan ty of printed material produced. A program called Papercut has been introduced to assist us to reduce unnecessary and wasteful student prin ng. An alloca on of 100 sheets per student per semester was set and as we near the end of Semester 1 more than 95% of students have not reached this amount. Students who have reached their limit and who needed more prin ng have been required to come and see me and at this stage we would review the type of documents and volumes that they have printed. A er reviewing what they have printed, the majority of students have acknowledged that they could have been more prudent in their print decision making and will no doubt learn from this experience. We believe that this educa on process will not only be beneficial to the College but will flow to the home environment as well.
Teaching staff are also inves ga ng ways in which they can reduce both their own and student prin ng. In some cases it is appropriate that teachers receive email dra s of assignments as opposed to printed versions and worksheets can be made available in student common drives which students can then copy to a memory s ck, as opposed to prin ng them all out. Further ini a ves will be proposed that not only will reduce prin ng but will actually enhance the teaching and learning process.
We have also recently completed an en re print audit of the College and in the September holidays a major ra onalisa on of our student and staff printers will take place. In some areas of high use, many smaller, inefficient printers will be replaced by larger, more efficient Mul ‐Func on Devices. Our printer numbers will reduce from 48 at present to 29. In many cases a number of smaller printers in an area are replaced by one of these previously men oned devices leading to not only reduced cost for the College in terms of prin ng but also in reduc on of energy consump on. This ra onaliza on has been applied across the whole campus to student, staff and administra on areas.
Finally, as has been men oned in previous Newsle ers, the move from the printed Informa on Sheet to the online e‐Newsle er will take place at the beginning of next semester. Research has indicated that many more people are able to read online e‐Newsle ers as the communica on is direct to the parent, rather than relying on the students where delivery can some mes be unreliable. There are obvious print savings to be made using this mode of informa on delivery.
At this evening’s P & F Mee ng, I will be giving further informa on regarding provision and usage of ICT at Loreto and future plans for this important area.

Open A Soccer Report 25 May - Week two of the
soccer season saw the Open A Loreto team playing a home game against Brigidine College. The girls were enthusias c and raced onto the field with a fierce determina on which paid off when Zoe‐Lee Spero scored the first goal of the season. Although the girls had a few more a empts at goal, it wasn’t enough as the Brigidine team came back to score the next three goals, leaving the final score at 3‐1. However the girls played valiantly and are looking forward
to next week. Stephanie Poncini ‐ Manager
Results ‐ Round 3: 1 June
Junior B ‐ Although the girls faced a challenging
opposi on in St Rita’s, they managed to s ll play with true Loreto spirit. Special men on to Rebecca and Nicola who put up a courageous act as goal keepers against a strong opposi on a ack. Score: Loreto 0 : St Rita's 7.
Katherine Stephanos – Manager
Junior A ‐ The Loreto Junior A soccer team has remained
undefeated for the 2011 season and s ll on top of the BSGSA compe on with a 2 ‐ 0 defeat over the much rated Brigidine College. The goals were scored by Mikayla Papatoniou and Jemima Moore. Bri any Ryan, Emily Hayes and Krystal Hatzipapas played outstandingly in defence. All the girls played an excellent game, so well done team! Jim Bellos ‐ Coach
Junior B Soccer ‐ This week the team secured a
well‐earned victory over Lourdes Hill College. It was great to see that a er being down 1‐nil, the girls remained posi ve and fought back to win 2‐1. Keeleigh was able to score two terrific goals but it must be acknowledged that it was a real team effort to li in the second half. Keep up
the good offensive play girls! Katherine Stephanos ‐ Manager
Open A Soccer ‐ Last week the girls travelled to Zillmere to
play the Mt Alvernia team. Loreto played with more energy than we have seen this season and gave the Mt Alvernia girls a run for their money, matching their first goal 1 to 1. It was even for most of the match and our girls managed to keep the ball near the goals most of the me. However, in the final minutes of the second half, the Mt Alvernia team saw a gap and made a winning shot, leaving the overall score at 2‐1. Despite this the girls played extremely well and should be congratulated on their
determina on. Stephanie Poncini – Manager
BSGSA Hockey
Results/Match Reports: Round 3 ‐ 1 June
Open One
Our Round 3 match against Mt St Michael’s College Team 1 was a closely fought contest right up un l the final whistle. Isabel Mowen opened our account early in the game with a lightning fast shot at goal from a short corner that le the opposi on goalkeeper scratching her head. Ellen Carey, her partner in crime at fullback, provided some inspira onal defence, fending off the skilful Mt St Michael’s countera acks that fol‐lowed. Jemma “The Dynamo” Stubbs was again searching for the gaps up high all match, keeping the opposi on’s back line busy trying to keep track of her. Our second goal was adeptly pushed in by Anna Hertle a er an extended s nt of shots, deflec ons and blocks in the circle. The rest of the match was a tug of war with the ball traversing the length of the pitch with regularity thanks to great link passes between Katherine Ware and Annabel Tapsall as well as some tricky decep ve moves by Elise Gellweiler. Riley Nibbs showed im‐pressive courage running out off the baseline and defusing some very threatening penalty corners against us in the se‐cond half. Brooke Postle made the Mt St Michael’s forwards really earn their two eventual goals thanks to her great reflex‐es in the box. With five minutes to go, the score line was 2‐2 and our forward line went for broke to put that last winning shot in. Due to some amazing tenacity and s ckwork from Leah Carey at right wing, we had the ball in the oppo‐nent’s quarter for almost the en re last five minutes, but un‐fortunately lady luck was not on our side when it came to pu ng the pill in the back of the net. At the end of the a er‐noon we walked away with a sa sfying 2 all draw against a well organised and highly skilled opponent. Well done, Loreto
1! Ma Lourigan ‐ Coach
Open Two
The Loreto Team Two had a massive win over Mt St Michael’s 2 this week winning 17 ‐ 0. The girls played an amazing a acking game leaving our defenders with not much to do. Great work by Larissa Claridge, Tahlia Simms and Wade Bilton who all scored 3 goals each and Georgia Hillas, Jess Mar nez, Issy Christ and Emma Currey who scored 2 each.
Fantas c game girls! Eliza Mooney ‐ Coach
BSGSA Compe on
This week the Loreto Two team have moved comfortably to the top of the ladder closely followed two points behind by Loreto One and Mount St Michael’s 1 in equal second place. It was pleasing to see a good turn out at the game this week with plenty of reserves for that ‘just in case’ moment.
A reminder that BSGSA Hockey is on Wednesday a ernoon. This week Open One play Mount St Michael’s 2 and Loreto Two play St Rita’s. Good luck!

Junior A ‐ This week the 8A's had a fantas c game, tying 11
all with Mt Alvernia. Everyone played well and cheered loudly. Hopefully next week will see us improve further and come
home with a win. Coach ‐ Magdaleine Ryan
Junior B –Another great game for the 8B’s! Winning by over
20 goals against Brigidine College, we held fast in defence pulling in intercept a er intercept. Even though our shooters had to deal with less than ideal condi ons, they managed to shoot at over 70% for the whole game. It was a fun, energe c
game! Congratula ons girls. Coach ‐ Amy Logan
Junior C – Tight defence and crisp passing were the order of the day for the majority of our game. It appears the significantly shorter hoop height is a hurdle we are now coping with and have resigned ourselves to! Our shoo ng was par cularly accurate during this game and our defence was electrifying, led by Maddy Catsoulis. Lily Devine is to be congratulated on her great mid court play which helped our Goal A ack and Goal Shooters have more possession than our
opposi on. Coach ‐ Mrs Jacqui Gold
Intermediate A ‐.Round three saw the Intermediate As
with a spectacularly close game against St Rita’s. Despite our loss of 25‐20, we matched the opposi on goal for goal for the majority of the game, even though we had lost a number of our players due to injury and illness. Every member of the team performed brilliantly, and their hard work on defence at training this week paid off. A big thank you to Mary‐Kate Dennis and Georgia Burns from the B team for stepping up to fill some big shoes, and congratula ons to shooters Annie Passingham and Chaira Asnicar for pu ng some big numbers
on the board. Coach ‐ Ms Claire Wilson
Intermediate B ‐ Another good game by the Intermediate
B’s saw the defeat of a well drilled Brigidine team. A par cularly good effort by Eloise Carroll who took plenty of intercepts throughout the court. Accurate shoo ng by Megan,
Brigid and Ka e helped secure a 12‐ 7 win for the girls. Coach ‐ Rebecca Healy
Intermediate C ‐ Loreto Intermediate C’s had a 27‐13 win
over the opposi on Mt Maria College, proving they are solid contenders in the weekly compe on. A er a slow start and an even first quarter, Loreto without a doubt became the more dominant team in both a ack and defence. Loreto primarily maintained possession of the ball for the remainder of the game, which kept the opposi on’s goals to a minimum. Olivia McCarthy showed outstanding shoo ng. The girls can be proud of their efforts and the win.
Coach – Bridget O’Connor
Intermediate D ‐ Good work to the girls for yet another win. The girls managed to pull through to defeat San Sisto 17‐11. This would not have been possible without the quick defence of Ruby Owen, inspira onal team leadership by Sarah King and some amazing shoo ng by Prue Hempel.
Coach ‐ Emma Williams
NAB Cup Compe on
Round One ‐ Loreto v’s Lourdes Hill
The game with Lourdes Hill College has now been played and won. The final outcome of the game was Loreto College (four goals) defea ng Lourdes Hill College (nil).
The first few minutes of the game started with what looked to be an even match. As me passed Loreto slowly took control and scored the first goal at the 18 minute mark followed with a second goal six minutes before half me.
Lourdes Hill made a brisk start in the second half, but it was not to last with Loreto domina ng play for the majority of the half. Loreto scored the third goal from a penalty corner and the final goal with three minutes le to play. The second half did not all go Loreto’s way. Lourdes Hill successfully broke through on a number of occasions to be stopped by excellent goalkeeping and were unlucky not to convert from a series of penalty corners. A well played game by all team members. Well done!
Thanks to all the supporters who turned up to see the game. We look forward to your support in a few weeks me.
Our next game is s ll to be decided, however, the game is to be played on or before Friday, 24th June. As soon as we find out which team we play, where we are to play and the date we are to play, you will know.
The next training session for NAB is on Thursday, 16th June.

Open A – The Open A team had an excellent game
demonstra ng determina on and persistence. The girls put into prac se what they had been working on during training and defeated Brigidine 30 to 14. Georgia McNae and Ashleigh O’Connor played superb defence and there were lots of aerial intercepts. The team also demonstrated good sharp drives from the centre court and excellent movement
from shooters. Coach ‐ Adeline Ryan
Open B – Unfortunate, Loreto lost to Mt Alvernia. 11 to 19.
The girls started slowly but the team’s performance im‐proved as the game progressed. A special men on must go to Sarah Pe ford who stepped up and played a great game
in defence. Coach ‐ Larissa Hughes Open C –The Open C girls had a loss today 19 to 15 against Mt Alvernia with a ght 2nd quarter. It was the 3rd quarter when the opposi on started to pull away. An excellent game played by Hannah Fowler in the centre court.

Thank you from Mrs Williams
I was discharged from hospital last week and am now home regaining my strength. Because of your many messages of love and concern I would like to thank you. How wonderful it is to know that you have to improve because a couple of hundred girls are wishing for your return and are keen to enjoy a li le frivolity. I now know a great deal about hospitals – needles, meals, baths, other pa ents, lights out. Believe me, a hospital is a good place to avoid! So look a er yourselves, have a happy holiday, avoid all moving
bicycles and do well in your exams. Kerry Williams
