VISITING MISSIONARY This weekend we are having a missionary visiting our parish. Raquel Aina Lavture is a lay missionary from Amor en Accion. Amor en Accion is a lay missionary community of the Archdiocese of Miami, founded in 1976, by a group of young missionaries who felt a call to share in faith and love with our brothers and sisters in developing countries. Over the years, their experiences with those who are living in poverty and oppression have compelled them to action. They are committed to collaborating in community projects in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The mission appeal in our parish will help them respond to many vital needs

Then he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter said in reply, "The Christ of God." He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone. He said, "The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be re-jected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised." - Lk 9:20-22

THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL Once when Jesus was praying in solitude, and the disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.’” Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said in reply, “The Christ of God.” He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone. He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.” Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but who-ever loses his life for my sake will save it.” Luke 9:18-24

Thanks for your continued generosity!

THE PASTOR’S PONDERANCES Today Jesus is intent on knowing how well His inti-mate friends are “getting it.” Simon, surprisingly and incredibly, nails the right answer without hesitation. On the most important level of things, Peter seems to al-ways “get it.” If only we could say the same for our-selves!

CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP “Tell them I love them very much!” These are the words of Pope Francis to the Charismatic Renewal Move-ment on April 30 of this year. The Mercy of Jesus Charis-matic Prayer Group meets every Thursday at 7 pm at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. In a world where Chris-tians often must walk against the cultural current, Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life, points in the direction we should go and never abandons us. If you have been yearning for God, perhaps Jesus is saying to you, “Come and see.” (John 1:39) For more information, call Jackie at 332-3576.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CELEBRATION Come join us for a celebration of our country’s founding. The annual Knights of Columbus 4

th of July

ceremony will be held at the Knights’ Hall at 40 Colum-bus Ave, Rochester, beginning at 9:30 am. There will be guest speakers, and this year’s special guests are a group of Rochester area home schoolers, who will give a presentation on the Bill of Rights and Patrick Henry’s Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death speech. Light re-freshments will be served following the ceremony. All are welcome.

THANK YOU!!! The Marian Society and Catholic Charities would like to thank you for all the gifts and prayers sent and given to the Dresser Project. Your generosity as always awes and inspires us! Pax.

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION Next week our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which provides the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his most important charitable works. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and disasters. Your gift makes you a pilgrim of charity around the globe.

LOUISE AND CHESTER STEVENS SALLY’S GRANDSON

CHRISTOPHER By Sally Sublette

SR. LUCIE SAYS This week’s gospel is taken from Luke. Jesus says, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Daily is the key word for us here. Just how do we do this? Each day brings many different occasions. We need not be suf-fering a great deal to pick up our crosses. It suffices to take the joys as well as the com-plaints and constraints of every day and give them to the Lord. This time of year brings al-most all kinds of “much to do.” Present these before the Lord. Praise and thank Him for the good things. Ask for patience and courage for the rest. Accept and offer all to the Lord, even the smallest joy to the greatest suffering will lead us to the Lord, who begs us to follow Him. Let us strive together this week to do just that. Praise and thank you, Lord, for the gift of life and the gift of faith. Sr. Lucie

OPEN YOUR HEART & HOME to a Catholic exchange student from France, Germany or Brazil for 2013-14 school year

Volunteer host families (with or without children) are needed to provide food, a bed, and a loving home for the coming school year, one or two semesters, starting in August. EMF students have medical insurance, spending money for their personal expenses, and expect to share their host family’s daily life including household responsi-bilities. They speak English, are well-screened, and are eager to experience life in America. Their stay is spon-sored and supervised by EMF (Educational Merit Foun-dation), a non-profit, educational exchange program. For more information, please Marie-Claude Dijoud at (800) 467-8363 or visit our web site at www.emfusa.org.
