SAINT MARY CHURCH ROCHESTER, NH

THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL Jesus told his disciples a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. He said, “There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being. And a wid-ow in that town used to come to him and say, ‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’ For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually, he thought, ‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.’” The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” Luke 18:1-8

Are you comfortable with faith sharing? If not, why are you uncomfortable?

THE PASTOR’S PONDERANCES Today Jesus is pressed to render a decision. Jesus will one day render a decision based on every individual case in our lives. We do not press Him into service in this way. It is ordained or assigned by His Father, and our Father. However, God presses us to live good lives so that our final “rendering” will go well. Fr. Daniel

SR. LUCIE SAYS All the scripture readings this week remind us of “prayer.” Moses and the Israelites win as long as Moses keeps his hands up in supplication and the judge gives in to the demands of a per-sistent woman. The Psalm response, “Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth,” reminds us that the Lord indeed hears our pray-ers. All our prayers are indeed answered, but not necessarily in the way that we anticipated or by direct intervention. Sometimes God an-swers through events or the people in our lives. This calls us to be ever on the alert to look out for the many “little miracles” which happen every day. A good way to bring all of these in to our awareness is to take some time each evening to “go over our day,” asking ourselves a few questions. Was God there for me today? What message was received or overlooked? What did I learn from people or events today, especially the unexpected ones that come from God without my recognizing it at the time? We can then give thanks and praise for the bless-ings of the day, as well as thanks for those bless-ings, which we will receive tomorrow. Sr. Lucie
