The Most Holy Body And Blood Of ChristJune 2nd and 3rd, 2018

Circulation Theology There is a very natural tendency to focus only on the Eucharist when we think of the Body and Blood of Christ. We forget that we are the Body of Christ and the real presence of Jesus is also in his body. You are the body, that irritating person in the next pew is the body and that marginalized person who makes you uncomfortable is the body.

The Blood of Christ is meant to keep the body alive, healthy and functioning well. Jesus never meant for his body and blood to be consumed and hoarded on an individual basis as if it's a private devotion. The blood MUST circulate in order to do its job and if we receive the Eucharist without the intention of allowing it to flow out to those who need nutrition or protection or are floundering in toxic waste, we become akin to being blocked arteries contributing to the sickening and death of the body of Christ. Ask anyone who has had surgery for hardened and blocked arteries. They'll tell you that those blockages severely limit the body's ability to function. Energy is depleted. Sudden death is a huge risk.

In the Gospel of John, after Jesus institutes the Eucharist, he immediately washes the disciples' feet. These two incidents are not unrelated. Jesus instructs them to eat his body and drink his blood – and then wash feet. “Love one another as I have loved you.” Washing each other's feet is how the blood can be kept in life giving circulation. Forgiveness, compassion and service unblock the arteries and bring life back to the body.

Receive the Body and Blood and then wash some feet. Give yourself a cardio workout.
