“As I am about to complete my stay at Life Care, I look back on the big picture. I arrived medically fragile with an enormous physical deficit. I leave with some continued work to do, but armed with the skills to head in to the next phase of my recovery. “A number of things were outstanding, but more importantly, I think that my whole situation was addressed. From the unfailing, friendly and helpful domestic help who

uniformly responded to tough situations, to the counseling providers whose successes are now so evident to me. “Simply thank you ever so much for getting me through a tough, challenging part of my life.”— Richard Burnham, former short-term rehab patient At Life Care, we equip our patients with the tools they need to live as independently as possible. Call us today to schedule a tour and learn more about how our quality therapy services can help.

(MS) -- Volunteerism can help young peoplegrow into well-rounded, responsible individuals. When volunteering, kids can learn new skills, foster new friendships and contacts, and improveboth their social and interpersonal skills. Inaddition, a 2011 study from researchers at theStony Brook University School of Medicine foundthat people are generally happier and healthierwhen giving back to their communities. The studyeven recommended that health care professionalsrecommend volunteering to patients 12 and older, with the belief that helping others providessignificant health benefits, including allowingvolunteers to escape their stress and anxiety. And,there could even be a few added bonuses forvolunteering!

Students between the ages of six and 18 whohaven't yet graduated high school have thechance to be recognized for their volunteeringefforts and earn money for higher educationthanks to Kohl's Department Stores. For morethan a decade, the Kohl's Cares ScholarshipProgram has recognized more than 19,500

students, awarding nearly $4 million inscholarships and prizes. This year the organizationwill award nearly $400,000 in scholarships andprizes to more than 2,300 young volunteers whohave made a positive impact in theircommunities.

Finding the right activity is often the mostimportant step when fostering a love ofvolunteering in youngsters, and there are anumber of great opportunities and causes thatchildren can relate to.

• Embrace eco-volunteering. Today's kids areincreasingly eco-conscious, and concepts likerecycling, reusing and conserving fuel and energyare second nature to many young people. Thatmakes eco-volunteering a natural fit for today'seco-conscious students. Children can volunteerwith organizations that remove trash frombeaches and parks; plant trees to establishcommunity green spaces; work to promotewildlife conservation; or further recycling effortsin their communities.

• Help the needy. Volunteerism can open

youngsters' eyes to the plight of the less fortunate.Various organizations dedicated to helping theneedy depend on volunteers of all ages to meettheir missions. From soup kitchens to shelters toprivate clothing or food collection drives, opportunities abound for kids who want to helpthe less fortunate.

• Help the sick. Many organizations that caterto the sick also provide volunteering opportunitiesto youngsters. Many kids who volunteer withsuch organizations are motivated to do so by aclose friend or family member's battle with aparticular illness, but some kids even turn theirown personal adversity into an opportunity tohelp the sick.

Such was the case with 18-year-old TylerO'Briant of Tonganoxie, Mo. After spending morethan three semesters of high school in and outof Children's Mercy Hospital battling chronicbacterial and viral infections, Tyler, a 2013 Kohl'sCares Scholarship winner, decided to host a bookdrive and fundraiser, which ultimately raised more

than $1,150 to purchase books and e-readers forthe hospital waiting rooms, where young patientsnow have access to hundreds of books thanksto Tyler's efforts.

• Visit the elderly. Kids can learn a lot fromtheir elders, and many organizations that workwith the elderly offer volunteering programs forboys and girls. Individuals in group homes orhospitals often appreciate visits from youngsters, and kids can learn valuable life lessons in return.

• Tutor fellow students. A child who isproficient in a given subject can lend a helpinghand to fellow students who need someassistance. Working together to improve gradesand school performance can improve others'sense of self-worth and instill a greater sense ofaccomplishment in tutors.

Volunteering can foster a sense of socialresponsibility in youngsters, and may even helpthem finance their college educations. Moreinformation is available at www.kohlskids.com.

(StatePoint) Many families face hectic schedulesand tight budgets, especially when kids go backto school. A few quick meal solutions can helpyou spend less at the store and enjoy more timewith your family this school year.

Comforting and convenient, a store-boughtrotisserie chicken -- with a few other additions -- can help you create a complete meal for thefamily in 30 minutes or less. However, quality isimportant.

Theo Weening, global meat buyer for WholeFoods Market believes that the best tasting meatcomes from chickens raised the old fashionedway.

“Preparing great tasting meat starts longbefore you bring it home from the store. It startson the farm,” Weening said. “Check the label andopt for chicken that was raised the way natureintended -- on a vegetarian diet with no addedgrowth hormones and no antibiotics ever.”

For example, the rotisserie chickens at WholeFoods Market come from farms that have beencertified to the Global Animal Partnership’s 5-Step Animal Welfare Rating System, so consumerscan know exactly how the animal was raised.

While rotisserie chicken on its own is adelicious, easy go-to meal any night of the week, don’t forget to shake things up. Try these simpleideas:

• Shredded in tacos or quesadillas: Quick andsimple, chicken will be the star of this easilyportable meal.

• Cubed in a cooked grain salad: Step up aside dish and make it an entrée. Add chicken to

whole grains, like brown riceor barley, for a filling meal.

• Added to rice andsteamed veggies: Turn thisplain dish up a notch withprotein. Pair with your favoritesauce or dressing for extraflavor.

• Added to pesto pasta:Mix whole wheat pasta withpesto, chopped tomatoes andchicken for a well-roundeddinner.

• Kabobs: Easy toassemble with fresh or pre-cooked veggies, chicken

kabobs make a nice addition to your tried andtrue menu.

Want some inspiration? Try this recipe for EasyChicken Burritos.

Ingredients

• 2 teaspoons canola oil • 1 small onion, diced• 1 cup frozen corn kernels• 2 cups shredded (about 7 ounces) roasted orrotisserie chicken meat• 1 1/2 cup cooked brown rice• 1 cup salsa• 6 tablespoons sour cream• 6 large whole wheat tortillas, heated• 3 cups baby spinach leaves

DirectionsHeat oil in a large skillet over medium-high

heat. Add onion and corn (no need to thaw it),and cook, stirring occasionally, until corn beginsto brown, about eight minutes. Add chicken andrice, and cook until heated through. Remove fromheat and stir in salsa and sour cream.

Line tortillas with spinach leaves and spoonabout 2/3 cup chicken mixture down the middleof each. Fold in top and bottom and roll up.

This back to school season, have plenty ofdinner tricks up your sleeve to make weeknightssimple.

Five Quick, Affordable Dinner Ideasfor Busy Families

B&C Trophy

1. Set up a Designated Study Space — Makesure there's an area of your house just forhomework, with all the supplies she needs inbins and boxes. Provide plenty of space for booksand set up baskets for papers so your child canfind old homework to review for tests. 2. Color Code Subjects — Buy school supplies

for each subject in a different color, so your childcan see at a glance which folder, notebook, andbinder has to do with which subject.3. Create a Cubby Hole at Home — Place a

crate or sturdy box near your front door so yourchild can keep his backpack and other schoolitems in one spot. Teach him to put anything heneeds for the next day in that place as well. Thatway, he'll know where his stuff is when he'slooking for it.

4. Use a Calendar — Give your child a datebook or other portable calendar that she canbring with her to school. Teach her to write downassignments, tests, play dates, lessons, and otherplans regularly. Also have her write down herclassmates' phone numbers and e-mailaddresses so she can find and contact themeasily. 5. Set a Good Example — If you keep things

neat and organized in your own life, your childis more likely to follow suit. If he has troublemaking "to-do" lists, sit down and make onealongside him. Seeing you turn off the TV at aregular time to pay bills or even just to read willshow him the importance of setting aside timeto do things and sticking to it.Taken from www.scholastic.com

“DO YOU HAVE A ‘YES’ FACE?”“The doctrine ‘yes’ has at last sounded in him, for inhim is the ‘yes’ that affirms all the promises of God”

2 Corinthians 1:19-20 (Moffattt)

There are different kinds of faces...Smiley face …Sad face… Angry face…Worried face…etc. Let’stalk about having a “yes” face.

A Yes face is the face of confidence. One day President Thomas Jefferson came with a

group of friends to a swollen river. They were onhorseback. At the riverbank was a hitchhiker whocould not get across the river. The hitchhiker wentstraight over to the President asking for help incrossing the river. The President obliged by pulling theman up on the horse behind him. Together theycrossed the stream to the other side.Amazed, a witness asked the hitchhiker “Out of all

those men, why in the world did you ask the Presidentto bring you across the river? The man answered, “Ididn’t know he was the President, I just knew he hada ‘yes’ face.”

A Yes face is the face of determination. After the first half of play, Coach John Beilein’s

young basketball team was playing sluggish against alesser opponent. He said, “I wasn’t pleased with (theteam) at halftime, not because of our play, but with ourfrustration level as individual players … This is thething we’ve got to work on, having ‘yes faces.’ You’reeither giving energy or you’re draining it.”

A Yes face is the face of ChristThe Bible says when it came time for Jesus to take

up His cross, “He set his face to go to Jerusalem.”Jesus is God’s Yes…• Yes to salvation (John 3:16) • Yes to living a full and meaningful life (John l0:10)• Yes to ALL of God’s promises ( 2 Cor.1:19) • Yes to positive thinking! (Philippians 4:13)

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to face life with a ‘YES’face! Amen.Peace to you and please join us for worship thisSunday in a church where Jesus’ love is lived.
