Summary and Introduction

During the period starting January 21, 1988 and ending February 29, 1988, an exploration program was undertaken on the Hellens-Eplett property. The program consisted o-f diamond drilling, drifting, bulk sampling and geophysics. Normal sampling o-f drill core and rock encountered in underground workings was carried out.

All diamond drilling was done by N. Morissette Diamond Drilling of Haileybury, Ont.. All core recovered was AQ (1.06 inches diameter) or EWG (0.845 inches in diameter) in size. Core is stored in core racks located near the mine buildings on the south west quarter o-f the south half of lot 14, concession l, Bucke Township. Sludge was not recovered. Results from this program are discussed elsewhere in this report. ,

About 12.3 miles of line were cut over the Hellens-Eplett property. All of the property except SW/4 of the S/2 of Lot 14 Con. l Bucke Twp. and parts of N/2 Lot l Con. 12 , NW/4 of the N/2 Lot 2 Con. 12. and T-1796B Lorrain Twp. were covered by the survey. A property map showing the grid is included with this report. Lines were cut every three hundred feet and readings were taken every one hundred feet on these lines. Crone Geophysics of Mississauga, Ont. was contracted to do the survey and to interpret the results. The report produced by Crone is included as appendix A of this report.

This report is based on 1) personal familiarity with the project and events that took place during the period in question 2) reports and personal communications from Mr. Richard LaPrairie the project manager, Ms. Li se Parcher the project accountant and other staff members and 3) various government maps and publications.

Previous Work

Geophysical Surveys

In 1981 Paterson, Brant and Watson were commissioned by Silverside Resources Inc. to do V.L.F.-E.M. and magnetometer surveys. It was thought that this might provide information leading to potential drill targets.Later drilling showed the anomalies to be conductive faults.

A V.L.F.-E.M. survey was run over claim number T-2S684 prior to the drilling of that area. A two station technique was used to ensure that conductors of different orientations would be located. Results of the survey indicated the orientation of some major structures and some gross surface conductors.

In April of 1986, three lines of induced polarization geophysics were run over the orebody on the Hellens-Eplett property. This was done in order to test the efficacy of this type of geophysics in locating the narrow silver bearing veins characteristic of the Cobalt camp. The I ..P. survey completely failed to locate the existing veins and the project was discontinued.

During the summer of 1987 a mise a la masse survey was run over the known veins and over some additional ground.Although the vein system was directly charged, the survey failed to locate the veins. Investigation of the other conductors failed to locate new targets.

Diamond Drilling

Diamond drill programs have been carried out intermittantly on the property from October 1981 to the present. About 105 surface holes and a similar number of underground holes have been bored in total. Most of this drilling is located in the NW/4 of the N/2 of Lot 2 Con. 12 and N/2 of lot l Con. 12. Four veins containing economic silver values and at least two other silver bearing veins were discovered.

Underground Construction

In 1985 a decision was made by the project management committee to commission the construction of' a ten foot by thirteen foot ramp, 2600 ft. in length. The ramp was designed to desend at about 1554 allowing for local variation. The contract was won by Markel Mining and Tunneling and construction began in May of 1985. A work stoppage was experienced from December of 1985 to early January of 1986 due to the bankrupt condition of Markel. Ramp construction

Page 5: 8 H E L L E N s EPLETT MINING INC. · question 2) reports and personal communications from Mr. Richard LaPrairie the project manager, Ms. Li se Parcher the project accountant and

'was resumed early in January 19B6 by Canadian Mine Developement. The ramp was-completed and the first bulk sampling program was initiated by Canadian Mine Developement acting for Markel 's bonding company. Upon completion of Markel's contract, Graham Mining was contracted to complete the underground workings and open up other areas of the mine for later sampling programs. Graham completed their contract by the end of February 1987. All further underground construction was done by Hellens-Eplett Mining.

Core Storage

All core from underground drilling and some core from the surface drilling is stored near the mine portal on the SW/4 of the S/2 lot 14 Con. l Bucke Twp.. The remainder of the core from the surface drilling is stored in a barn located on the NW/4 of the N/2 Lot 2 Con. 12.

Diamond Drilling

N. Morissette of Haileybury, Ont. was contracted to do diamond drilling on the Helens-Eplett property. About 5623 ft. o-f diamond drilling was done in all. Two drills were used, in the program; a Longyear "24" electric and a J.V. air powered drill. Core produced by this program was AQ (1.06 inches) or EWG (0.645 inches) in diameter.

The purpose of this drilling program was to explore the area immediately around the known veins and to determine And extend (if possible) the strike of those veins. Results o-f the program showed that several veins of unknown potential exist in the area of the known veins. The lateral if not the verticle extent of the silver ore bearing veins was reasonably well defined by the drilling program.

Drifting and Bulk Sampling

About 11,054 cu. ft. of bulk sample (921 tons) was removed during the period in question. Most of this work was done on number four and number two veins (see accompanying sections). Approximately 3789 cu. ft. of material was removed from about 67 ft. of drifting. Number two and four veins were the source of most of this material as well.

Equipment used in the exploration drifting and bulk sampling included both track and trackless equipment. Two 5 yard scoop trams were used for mucking in the ramp and lower levels. Sublevel developement was driven using slushers, 12b mucking machines l 1/2 ton side dumping cars and jacklegs. Slushers and stopers were used in areas where bulk sampling was done.

Geophysics

About 12.3 miles of line were cut over the Hel lens-Eplett property by Jim Forbes, a contract line cutter and prospector from Kirkland Lake, Ont.. This line was used to run deep pulse el ectomagnetic geophysics (a type not previously used on this property) which is sensitive to deeper conductors. Crone Geophysics of Mississauga, Ont. was contracted to do the work on the property and produce a report on the interpreted results. A copy of this report is enclosed as Appendix "A" of this report and a map of the conductors is also enclosed. Information on frequencies used etc. may be found there. Readings were taken on 100 ft. spacings on the lines. Lines were cut every 300 ft. in an east-west direction.

Assaying

All mineralised sections of diamond drill core and most carbonate and quartz carbonate veins were split and assayed for silver. Chip samples o-f both vein and wall rock material were taken at most faces and some drift backs were also chip sampled during this time period.

Conclusions

1) Several ore shoots exist on the Hellens-Eplett property. Bulk sampling has determined that a minable grade of ore may be obtained -from them.

P, 2) Silver intersections in diamond drilling indicate that veins other than the original six veins, previously known to

S* exist may occur on the property.

3) A zone of unusually high sulphide concentrations, mostly copper and zinc was encountered in drilling.

4) Some anomalies were obtained from the geophysics work done during this period. Most of these can be explained as conductive faults however some of these deserve a more thorough investigation.

Recommendations

1) More drifting and diamond drilling are required to further define the vein systems.

2) While zones of copper-zinc sulfide concentration are not uncommon in the Cobalt area, usually being associated with interflow sediments in the Archean rocks, they deserve some further investigation as to their economic potential. It is therefore recommended that some drilling be allocated to testing the sulfide zone. Since this is primarily a silver camp this drilling should be given a low priority.

Survey Logistics

A Pulse EM survey was conducted by Crone Geophysics Ltd. for Hellens Eplett Mining on the North Cobalt property from February 18 to March 4, 1988. The survey operator was Frank Glass, geophysicist and Robert Streich was the helper.

A total of 11.5 line miles of survey was completed using seven 1200' x 1200 1 transmit loops.

Survey Parameters

Transmit Loops - 1200' x 1200' using 12 AWG copper wire powered by 2000 watt transmitter with a peak current of 11amps.

Receiver - Digital receiver recording 20 channels, reading both the horizontal and vertical component of the secondary field.Readings were taken at 100 feet intervals.

Survey Results

The purpose of the pulse EM survey was to test the Keewatin volcanics below varying thickness of Nipissing diabase and Huronion sediments for any conductors that may relate to an economic deposit.

The anomalies were selected by picking positive peaks on the horizontal component and these peaks generally coincide with inflections or cross-overs on the vertical

Page 13: 8 H E L L E N s EPLETT MINING INC. · question 2) reports and personal communications from Mr. Richard LaPrairie the project manager, Ms. Li se Parcher the project accountant and

component. A Fraser filter plot of the vertical component aided in the selection of the anomalies. The conductors have been categorized as possible to strong as shown on the legend on the map.

No anomalies of the strong variety have been selected, however, several of the conductors are of the good category. Random conductivity-thickness calculations are in the order of 10-12 MHOS which indicate that the conductors are not highly conductive but sulphides (non-massive) and/or graphite could be a cause. The survey served also in outlining and further defining known fault structures.

The long north striking conductor that traverses the length of the grid at approximately 1200 feet west of the base line coincides with a known fault. This conductor is strongest from line 6+QON to 24+OON and it is recommended that the conductor be tested on line 12+OON as noted in the following list of recommended drill locations. The weak conductor outlined at the north end of the property apparently corresponds with a known fault which was mapped in the exploration drift.

As some of the conductors correspond with known faults, which there appear to be many, it is possible that most if not all the outlined conductors are fault controlled. As none of the anomalies plotted, exhibit high conductivity or respond on the later channels (14-20) suggests that a large massive sulphide body within 500 feet of surface does not exists.

The following are recommendations for diamond drilling listed in the order of priority.

Recommended Drill Targets

1. Collar 12+OON/6+OOW 65 degrees west to a depth of 800 feet - The calculated depth to the top of ^he conductor is 520 feet and a conductivity-thickness lvalue of 9.5 MHOS has been estimated.

2. Collar 15+OON/17000W 60 degrees west to a depth of 700 feet - Due to the weakness of the conductor no depth estimate was made, however, I have assumed that the conductor lies below 400 feet of diabase. This drill

- hole tests the conductor which is of the weak variety but appears as definite bedrock type. This conductor becomes weaker to the north.

3. Collar 9+OON/7000E 50 degrees east to a depth of BOO

Page 14: 8 H E L L E N s EPLETT MINING INC. · question 2) reports and personal communications from Mr. Richard LaPrairie the project manager, Ms. Li se Parcher the project accountant and

feet - This hole tests a north trending conductor on the east side of the property. I have assumed a near vertical dip for the target(s). The response at 10+OOE appears as a near surface conductor (ie. less than 100 feet) whereas the anomaly at 11+OOE is characteristic of a deep source response. The anomaly at 10+OOE could be caused by a fault or sulphides within a volcanic wedge.

4. Collar 21+OON/5+50W @ -65 degrees.west to a depth of 600feet - This recommended drill hole is spotted to intersect a conductor which lies between two north trending faults. A depth estimate of 350 feet has been estimated for the conductor and a conductivity-thickness value of 8.5 MHOS has been calculated.

5. Collar 21+0ON/10+5OW 665 degrees west to a depth of 600 feet - This hole is recommended to test a conductor which parallels the longer conductor which corresponds to a major north trending fault. This proposed hole is only recommended if the results of hole #1 are encouraging.

Respectfully submitted

Dave Watson
