Y Dear Parents and Students
This week we welcome visiting exchange students and staff from St Joseph de Tivoli in Bordeaux.
They will be staying with Loreto families for the next two weeks, enjoying the warm hospitality of our community. Our special thanks to these families and also to Ms Tilly and Ms Stewart for their co‐ordination and support.
During their stay at Loreto they will be spending time in various classes throughout the school, as well as visiting some local tourist sights and tasting some delights of ‘Aussie culture’.
We hope that their time in Queensland will be enjoyable, enriching and memorable. Congratulations to the House Captains, Sports Captains and Year level representatives on the marvellous suc‐cess of this year’s Interhouse Swimming Carnival. The leadership and spirit shown was impressive and joyful. Certainly, felicity abounded!

Reflection
In the spirit of Felicity, I offer this quote for your reflection, from Mother Mary Gonzaga Barry IBVM – foundress of the Loreto sisters in Australia.
“Let us make happy the circle around us. The human mind naturally, seeks for happiness. But to
find true happiness we must find God in all things”.
To Kirsty Wrice (Year 11) on her invitation to play golf in the ANZ Junior Masters at Royal Pines on the Gold Coast. We wish her well and ‘good golfing’.
THANK YOU
To the P & F for their generous provision of a tasty BBQ,last Sunday to welcome all new students and families to Loreto. We look forward to many more such social occasions as the year unfolds where we can share friendship, food and fun – all in the spirit of felicity.
To the school community for the warmth of your welcome and your prayerful commissioning of my Principalship at last week’s inaugural College Mass. I was both deeply moved and genuinely humbled by your blessing and your support. Thank you.
CONDOLENCES We offer our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Kelly Delaney (Class of 1998) who passed away last week. We give thanks for her life of dignity, graciousness and felicity. May she rest lovingly in God’s peace. Amen.

Year Eight – RAVE Reading Program Your daughter is commencing a reading program this week. We believe that reading is important. It is the basis of most school subjects. It extends your daughter’s imaginative powers and experience. RAVE (Read‐And‐Venture‐Everywhere) activities occupy one period of English per fortnight, but for its success we need your help. Please encourage your daughter to read regularly. Going to bed a little earlier and reading in bed is a good way to start. In creating the reading habit, it is the commitment to regular reading that is important rather than the length of time spent reading. If your daughter is not already in the reading habit, please encourage her to read for a short time (ten to twenty minutes) on four or five evenings per week. Your daughter should give you a sheet “PARENTS, HELP YOUR
DAUGHTER TO RAVE ABOUT READING!” Kathy Hedemann ‐ Teacher Librarian

Years 11 and 12 English On Monday of this week, I spoke to the girls about policies and procedures in the English Department. We wanted to make clear to the girls that English Teachers are totally supportive of, and committed to, the girls achieving their potential this year. We also wanted them to be aware of their increased levels of responsibilities in the Senior School, as they become more independent learners. The girls have taken home a note outlining drafting policies which we would like you to read in order to be supportive on the home front. The girls have made a positive start to the year and we would like to wish the girls every success for the
coming year. Mrs Catherine O’Donoghue ‐ English Coordinator

Safer Internet Day – 2011 The aim of Safer Internet Day today 8 February in 2011 is to help chil‐dren and teens learn essential skills about safe social networking. This annual international event is coordinated by Insafe, the European network for internet safety, and supported in Australia by the Australian Communications and Media Authority. The theme ‘It’s more than a game, it’s your life’ is used to promote safer and more responsible use by children and teens when using social networking sites and will highlight the importance of protecting privacy and digital reputation as well as the need for good online etiquette. Key messages from Safer Internet Day are:
Control your digital reputation – things you post online now can affect you in the future.
