We want your learning time to be an enjoyable experience. Use the different levels to ensure your child is first of all happy and second of all appropriately challenged.Apples provides a basic level of Year 1 learning and Bananas offers a trickier challenge.
Please bear in mind the following key Year 1 writing targets:
Non-negotiables for writing Capital letters Finger spaces Full stops Spelling words using phonics – this means your child’s spelling is highly unlikely to be perfect! This is what we are looking for when we see your child’s work Correctly spelt common exception words
Trickier challenges to include is writing where possible Use ‘and’ in a sentence Use the suffixes –ed (walked, licked); -er (quicker, smaller); and –est (quickest, smallest) Use exclamation marks Use question marks Use joined handwriting Use adjectives
Reading a book is still a requirement in addition to this timetable – Remember to predict, question, summarise and clarify. Remember to draw upon your phonic knowledge.

Dear Diary,Today I went to space. As I blasted off in my silver rocket, I looked out of the window and saw nothing but black. After a while I started to see twinkly, yellow stars. They were beautiful. As we moved higher, I looked back down at Earth. It looked like a green and blue ball floating in the darkness. We finally arrived at the space station. It was much bigger than I thought and inside it was filled with millions of buttons! I floated around as though I was swimming. It was incredible. Can you imagine what it was like?Tomorrow I will start work on the space station. First I will call some school children. Then I will start my experiments.

Thursday 13th March 2042Dear Diary,Yesterday I soared to the moon! I thought it was about time I went to visit my dear friend,Bob and I have not been on holiday for a while. I was excited to see his dark and dusty moon again. First I packed a bag of treats and toys for Pinky the dog and his spotty tail waggedas we climbed aboard our super speedy space shuttle. The purple and gold metal sparkled in the starlight. Next, we said hello to Peet the pilot robot. His buttons flashed green as we zoomed off and left our little home behind on Pluto. We saw lots of shooting stars on our journey. Eventually we arrived at the silver moon. Bob greeted us and he was holding his space golf clubs. We played until we lost all of our balls in the deep moon craters. After that, we started to feel hungry. Bob said he had heard about some delicious moon cheese. We decided to go on a hunt to find it. We searched for hours and got very dusty. Pinky barked when he found the cheese and it was so stinky. It smelt like dirty feet mixed with space gas from a Martian. Could you imagine the smell? I always said the smellier the cheese, the better the taste. I was quite right because it was delicious! We had a great first day on the moon and I cannot wait until tomorrow. We are going to visit the flag left by the Americans in 1969. I am very tired now so better get some sleep. Goodnight!
