    This is the rst book to provide an account of the inuence of Proclus,a member of the Athenian Neoplatonic School, during more than

    one thousand years of European history (c .

    ). Proclus wasthe most important philosopher of late antiquity, a dominant (albeitcontroversial) voice in Byzantine thought, the second most inuentialGreek philosopher in the later western Middle Ages (after Aristotle),and a major gure (together with Plotinus) in the revival of Greek philosophy in the Renaissance. Proclus was also intensively studiedin the Islamic world of the Middle Ages and was a major inuenceon the thought of medieval Georgia. The volume begins with a sub-stantial essay by the editor summarizing the entire history of Proclusreception. This is followed by chapters by more than a dozen of the

    worlds leading authorities in the various specic areas covered.s t ephen ge r sh is Professor of Medieval Studies and ConcurrentProfessor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame.
