JULIEN SHARPE, Managing Director, Zedra Guernsey Julien is the Managing Director of the Guernsey office at Zedra Trust Company (Guernsey) where the team provides fund, employer solutions and traditional private client trustee and company administration services. He joined Zedra as part of the acquisition from Barclays in January 2016. Prior to joining Zedra, Julien held senior positions with the Royal Bank of Scotland, both onshore and offshore for 20 years; moving to Equity Trust in 2007 where he delivered a substantial strategic change program as COO for the Channel Island business prior to their acquisition by TMF Group.

GEOFFREY TODD, Partner, Boodle Hatfield Geoffrey gives UK and international tax and estate planning advice to individuals, trustees and family businesses. He advises on tax planning strategies – including the use of trusts and other structures – residence and domicile issues, and cross-border estate planning, particularly between the US and the UK. He also deals with charity law and succession planning, including the protection of wealth against divorce. Geoffrey acts for clients whose underlying businesses range from property and financial investment to wine-making and philanthropy.

JUDITH BRYANT, Barrister, Wilberforce Chambers, LondonJudith was called to the Bar in 1987 and has specialised throughout her career in work involving trusts (including their taxation), wills, administration of estates, charities, Court of Protection matters, family provision, and trust work associated with high-wealth divorces. She is equally adept at advisory and litigation work, combining excellent analytical abilities with a practical approach, and is valued for her clear explanations. Judith is recommended as ‘a bright and very capable junior’ (Legal 500, 2015), and ‘a very good, analytical barrister’ (Chambers Directory, 2016).

HAZEL JOHNSON, Consultant, Moore Stephens, London Hazel trained as a barrister, but has spent the last 15 years working for accountancy firms, and the last eight with Moore Stephens LLP in London. Hazel advises on bespoke tax planning for high-net-worth individuals, including offshore trusts, foundations and other entities. She also deals with clients in financial services sectors, UK-domiciled individuals with businesses, and handles complex tax issues. Hazel has expertise in employment-related securities, inheritance tax planning, capital gains tax planning including exit strategies for owner managed business shareholders, and capital taxes in general.

PAOLA FUDAKOWSKA, Counsel, Withers Paola is Counsel in the Contentious Trusts and Succession Group at Withers LLP in London. She specialises in all types of trust and succession disputes, primarily with an international focus. She uses her experience as a litigator to advise trustees on risk management and settlors on creating robust structures. Once a problem has arisen she advises on methods to diffuse contention, risk mitigation and alternative dispute resolution as well as on proceedings if necessary.Paola is currently President of the Private Clients Commission of the Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats (AIJA).

PROFESSOR ROBIN JACOBY, Oxford University Robin read Russian & French at Oxford before studying medicine. He trained in psychiatry at the Bethlem Royal and Maudsley Hospitals, where he was a consultant for 10 years before moving to Oxford in 1994. Currently he is Professor Emeritus of Old Age Psychiatry, Oxford University. He has given expert opinions in over 250 probate cases of which 17 appear in the legal reports. He is a co-author with Martyn Frost and Stephen Lawson of Testamentary Capacity: law, practice and medicine published by OUP (2015). He shares a virtual chambers with Prof Robert Howard at www.banks-v-goodfellow.com

CAROLYN STEPPLER, Partner, EY, LondonCarolyn is a private client tax partner at EY. She leads EY’s EMEIA Centre of Excellence for cross-border private client work, and specialises in tax issues relating to ultra-high-net-worth individuals, particularly those who are UK resident and non-UK domiciled. Carolyn’s client base is varied and includes private equity and hedge fund principals, company executives, family businesses and family offices. She advises her clients on all aspects of their personal tax affairs and has a strong working knowledge of the UK’s anti-avoidance legislation.

PAUL BUCKLE, Group Partner, Walkers, GuernseyPaul specialises in all aspects of contentious and non-contentious trust and pensions law. He has advised institutional and individual clients on the creation, administration and termination of all manner of pension arrangements and associated litigation. Since arriving in Guernsey in 1999, Paul has widened his practice to include general trust and fiduciary work. He has been involved in many of Guernsey’s leading trust cases in recent years.

MATTHEW GUTHRIE, Partner, Mourant Ozannes, Guernsey Matthew heads the international trust and private client team at Mourant Ozannes in Guernsey. He provides Guernsey law advice on wealth structuring and asset protection through trusts and other vehicles to trust companies, international families and high-net-worth individuals. He also advises on all Guernsey law aspects of international pension schemes, employee benefit trusts and share option schemes for multi-national corporations. Matthew is a member of STEP and a frequent contributor to a number of journals on trusts and foundations.

ANDREW HOLDEN, Barrister, XXIV Old Buildings, London Andrew enjoys a busy commercial and chancery practice, with a particular focus on international trust litigation. He has extensive experience acting in complex litigation for the trustees, beneficiaries, settlors and protectors of trusts in all of the prime offshore jurisdictions, including Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar, the Cayman Islands, the BVI and Bermuda. Andrew is the author of Trust Protector, the second edition of which is due to be published in 2017.

BELINDA BURGESS, CEO, Northern Trust Channel Islands Belinda is an experienced financial services professional across a number of sectors including fiduciary, and is a director on several Guernsey-domiciled boards. Prior to moving to Guernsey, Belinda was based in Stockholm, where she was responsible for all asset servicing and asset management business activity across Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Belinda has over 20 years of industry experience in a wide range of operational and client-facing roles. She began her career with JPMorgan Chase, Luxembourg, before moving to London as a Senior Relationship Manager in 2000.

PETER FERBRACHE, States of Guernsey Peter Ferbrache is President of the Committee for Economic Development whose purpose is defined as ‘To secure prosperity’. He has recently returned to Guernsey politics but was, between 1997 and 2000, a member of Guernsey’s then most senior political body. He has been a lawyer for over 40 years and for 33 years was a partner and former Senior Partner at Mourant Ozannes. In his legal practice he dealt with both contentious and non-contentious trust matters. He also has been a professional trustee for some years and has been alive to the development of Trusts Law in Guernsey.

ALISON OZANNE, Partner, Walkers, GuernseyAlison is a Guernsey Advocate and Founding Partner of AO Hall Legal Specialists, which became Walkers in July 2016. She specialises in commercial litigation with a particular emphasis on trust and fiduciary, banking, insolvency, insurance and reinsurance litigation, and general corporate disputes. Alison also has a significant interest in customary law issues and has lectured widely on Guernsey’s constitutional position in Guernsey, London, Jersey and France.

STEPHEN OZANNE, Senior Associate, Walkers, GuernseyStephen is a member of Walkers’ Corporate, Finance and Investment Funds Groups in its Guernsey office, and has a particular expertise advising in relation to technology, data and fintech businesses, including distributed ledger, online prime brokerage, FX trading, payment and ‘robo’ investment advisory platforms. Stephen is the Chairperson of the Legal, Regulatory and Tax Sub-Group of the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Fintech and Digital Oversight Group of the States of Guernsey.

SALEEM SHEIKH, Senior Partner, GSC Solicitors, London Saleem heads up the International and Offshore Department at GSC Solicitors and has over 30 years’ experience of a range of complex trusts-related issues. He has a particular expertise in international private client work and international and offshore tax and dispute resolution. He advises private individuals and corporate clients with international business and personal interests. His client base includes the Middle East, East Africa, India, Pakistan and CIS.

MATT THORNTON, Director, C5 Alliance, GuernseyMatt is Director of Professional Services at C5 Alliance, the Channel Islands’ largest IT Consultancy. He has advised clients in industries throughout financial services, including trust, insurance, banking and investment, most recently on the subjects of fintech (payments and collaboration), regtech (CRS, FATCA, AIFMD) and systems’ integration, data warehousing and big data, as well as on a growing interest in disruptive technologies such as the cloud, blockchain and internet of things.

FIONA TROALIC, Head of Legal & Compliance, Credit Suisse Trust, Guernsey Fiona joined Credit Suisse Trust in 1996 and is currently Head of the Legal & Compliance Department and represents Legal & Compliance at board level, as well as being Company Secretary. Fiona previously worked in the Asia Pacific department as Deputy Head of Department and then as the Head of the Russia/Eastern Europe and Southern Africa department before assuming her current role. Fiona has a broad range of experience in the fiduciary industry, covering both client and operational areas.

NICK KIRBY, Editor-in-Chief, BL magazineNick has been the Editor of BL magazine since its inception as businesslife.co in 2008. As Editorial Director of parent company BL Global, he took over management of content for its conference programme in 2014 and now oversees four events each year covering trusts, funds, NEDs and private clients. Nick has 16 years’ experience in financial publishing and has worked with a variety of blue chip clients, including Barclays Stockbrokers, Nasdaq, Fidelity, Lloyds Private Bank, Cater Allen Private Bank and Quilter Cheviot.
