What is WIMAX

 WIMAX stands for Worldwide

Interoperability for Microwave

Access(IEEE 802.16). Frequency bands: 2 to 11GHz for licensed

and 10 to 66GHz for unlicensed bands.

Features of WiMAX

WiMAX Standards: fixed WiMAX (IEEE 802.16-d) and

mobileWiMAX (IEEE 802.16-e).

WiMAX can provide broadband wireless access (BWA)

up to 30 miles (50 km) for fixed stations, and 3 - 10miles (5 - 15 km) for mobile stations.

 Data rate:

For fixed standard up to 75 Mbps per subscriber.

For mobile applications 30Mbps per subscriber.

WiMAX in Bangladesh

bracNet is the 1st company in Bangladesh usingWiMAX

They are using fixed WiMAX, vendor Alvarion

6 BS (POP) covering Dhaka city. These are in

Mohakhalli, Uttara, khilkhet, Mirpur, Motijhil &Dhanmondi

Each BS covers 25km in 90 degree angel

About 250 SS (CPE) under each BS (LOS)

Datarate:

For CPE 10 Mbps DL and 7.3 Mbps UL

For POP 17.5 Mbps

Covarage area: Dhaka, Sylhet & Chittagong.

Frequency used by bracNet

From BTRC 98 MHz Frequency of 3.5

GHz is used

Frequency range for this 98 MHz is 3300MHz to 3398 MHz

This 98 MHz is divided into two parts 56

MHz for large cells and 42 MHz for small

cells

 Channel bandwidth is 3.5 MHz
