UKOLN’s focus:• Open standards to allow IT applications to
interoperate and enhance use and re-use & avoid application- and platform-dependencies
• Open source: to both provide cost-effective solutions & the flexibility this provides (we support JISC’s OSS Watch service)
• Open content including: Open access to peer-reviewed articles Open content to allow content to be reused; maximise
impact; etc. Open data to allow content to be reused; maximise
impact; etc.

UKOLN Perspective
UKOLN takes a pragmatic approach:• An advocacy role, outlining potential benefits to
community• A listening role, hearing about concerns,
difficulties, etc.• A developmental role, developing approaches
and models to maximise benefits while acknowledging difficulties
