From January 23–26, bitforms gallery will host A Child’s Machiavelli by Claudia Hart. The exhibition features a rerelease of the publicationlA Child’s Machiavelli published by Beatrice Books, initially written and illustrated by Hart in 1995, in addition to a series of original paintings. The artist was inspired by Niccolo Machiavelli’s Renaissance treatise, The Prince,llong considered the first book of political philosophy. Hart’s version began as a series of oil paintings and a small catalog, which was eventually republished as an expanded hardcover book in 1998. The irony and twisted humor of this series is derived from its combination of opposites: the saccharine speech of children's books and the unvarnished reality of American politics. The artist, publisher,land bitforms gallery enthusiastically welcome this new edition.
